OVERVIEW

RailPod is changing the track inspection industry with the world’s first robotic railroad-track inspection system. RailPod is hiring an inspector that operates the RailPod inspection platform from one railroad to another and conducts Railroad Inspections upon arrival. During two consecutive weeks of “on-the-road” work, the candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day maintenance of the hi-rail truck and the RailPod vehicle, ensuring that it is ready for operation with minimal impact to customer operations. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring proper inspection and maintenance of a hi-rail truck and RailPod vehicle
  • Must maintain both the hi-rail and RailPod vehicle which entails crawling under vehicles with minimal clearance and awkward postures under the vehicle.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment to include safety glasses, steel toed boots, hard hats, and safety vests. Other safety gear may be required depending on the task.
  • Must comply with recurring Roadway Worker Safety training.
  • Managing the routine transfer of data via hard drive shipments and wireless connectivity
  • Engaging with clients in the field and coordinating schedules with clients prior to the inspection. Ability to adjust schedule to meet the needs of the customers.
  • Travel schedule consists of working for 2 consecutive weeks living in hotels. 1 week at home. On occasion this schedule does alter depending on client needs and availability of other schedules (i.e. emergencies, personal needs, etc.)
  • Documenting and filing travel expenditures in a timely manner.
  • Regular use of electronic checklists via a mobile app.
  • Ensuring a clean and organized truck to include both interior and exterior cleanliness.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including electronic hour logging, weigh stations, registration inspections, customer inspections, speed limits and general safe operating procedures in all driving conditions.
  • Comply with DOT medical tests per regulatory standards.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces (i.e. ballast) along railroad tracks and be able to climb steps, pick up heavy tools, visually identify railroad signals (i.e. distinguish between red, yellow, and green) and hear verbal communications, alarms, and buzzers and not have any significant hearing loss across the audible range.
  • Participation in weekly companywide safety meetings (when not operating equipment).
  • Utilization of a laptop when not operating equipment to clearly communicate with engineering and maintenance staff to include taking pictures, using inter-office messaging (e.g. Slack) and other office tools.
  • Monitor and report parts inventory.
  • Participate in and pass initial and random drug and alcohol testing per DOT requirements.
  • Operate truck and equipment independently and in coordination with customers.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Driver’s License required, no CDL required, but commercial driving experience is preferred.
  • Work history demonstrating ability to maintain a truck and/or mobile industrial technical equipment. This includes the use of a torque wrench, impact wrenches, changing tires, troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • No smoking and no vaping allowed.
  • Familiar with the use of Windows operating system, web browsers and general navigation around a Windows computer (on the job training will take place as it relates to inspection related software)
  • Knowledge of railroad operations and track geometry inspections is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Automobile accident history will be reviewed.
  • Some holiday travel required.
