What to Expect:
When performing daily work, candidates will be expected to perform installation, preventive maintenance, calibration and repairs on a variety of equipment and sensors, including but not limited to, transmitters, receivers, site controllers, combiners, antenna systems, digital microwave, DC power plants, UPS’s, site monitoring equipment, tower light controllers and emergency power transfer switches, ESS sensors as well as installation and support of mobile 2-way radios and portables. Candidate will also be responsible for network backhaul equipment to include routers, switches and multiplexers. Candidate will be responsible for ordering parts and data entry into an asset management system.
This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team and independently on the maintenance and improvement of the State of Minnesota’s Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) system, one of the largest P25 Motorola trunking systems in the world serving over 90,000 public safety professionals, and MN/DOT’s Road Weather Information System (RWIS) which provides real time road and weather information from over 125 statewide monitoring sites.
**This position may be eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $5,000!
This position has flexible schedule options and does not require any tower climbing. This position does include up to 6 weeks of rotation scheduled paid on-call.
Minimum Qualifications
- FCC Radio-Telephone license or be an APCO (Association of Public Safety Communications Officers) or NABER (National Association of Business and Educational Radio) certified technician or equivalent within six (6) months of hire date.
AND
- A two year degree in Wireless Communications, Electronics, Communications Systems Installation and Repair Technology, computers, computer peripheral equipment and local and wide area computer networks, or equivalent or certificate from a military communications/electronics school or one (1) year experience as a radio, TV or electronics equipment repairman, and/or radio station engineer;
AND
One year of experience is required that demonstrates the following:
- Skill in troubleshooting techniques, soldering and handling sensitive electronic equipment and parts.
- Knowledge of radio communication procedures and ability to operate communication equipment.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, network operating systems, and capabilities sufficient to program and diagnose radio equipment.
- Knowledge of information technology networks, theory’s and practices, including wide-area and local-area networks.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed technical information sufficient to carry out electronic communication equipment installation, maintenance and repair.
- Necessary human relations skills, including courtesy and the ability to work well with a wide variety of customers, contractors and colleagues.
