Job Summary:
JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) Trainee Program is an innovative on-the-job training program and will be 12 weeks. At the end of the program you will be prepared to advance your career by becoming a Tennessee licensed EMT-B. As an EMT-B, you will provide appropriate, efficient, and timely inpatient support in various departments and interfacility transports to provide the necessary basic life support of the sick and injured neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients in accordance with hospital policies, local, state, and national standards of practice. Training will be based upon the Emergency Medical Technician Basic National Standard Curriculum. Once you complete training, you will sit for the EMT-B National Registry Exam. Post exam passing, you will apply to the Tennessee EMS Board for licensure. Passing of the National Registry Exam is designed to recognize entry level technicians who have demonstrated the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent services.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
As an EMT-B, you will have the capacity to work either in the hospital setting or the transport setting. Vanderbilt University Medical Center main campus and the three regional hospitals offer positions within all Emergency Departments. Vanderbilt LifeFlight is part of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is a comprehensive Emergency Medical services provider, including air and ground ambulance transport, Event Medicine coverage, and Emergency Communications. By air or ground, Vanderbilt LifeFlight will transport a patient to any medically appropriate hospital. Our crews have access to the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Burn Center and Children's Hospital, all at Vanderbilt. LifeFlight is a key part of a trauma system that includes pre-hospital care, definitive care, rehabilitation and injury prevention. We are nationally recognized for quality and safety.
Position Shift & Locations:
• Training will take place Monday-Friday 08:00-16:30
• Upon successful completion of the program and passing of the National Registry exam, participants will be assigned to work full-time, 36 hours per week, in their hired positions/service lines
• Participant placement COULD include any shift Days (06:00-18:00 or 0700-19:00), Evenings (11:00-23:00), and Overnights (18:00-06:00 or 19:00-07:00)
• Participant placement COULD include any of the following areas:
o the Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH) Adult Emergency Department
o the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Emergency Department
o the Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital Emergency Department
o the Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital Emergency Department
o the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Ground Service Line
o the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Event Medicine Service Line
o the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Critical Care Ground Service Line
o the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Transport Coordiantor Center
o the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Office of Emergency Communications
o the Monroe Carell Children's Hospital Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team
Position Qualifications:
• Can perform all job requirements as stated within TN Medical Statement - PH-0130
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language
• Must have no history within the past three years of habitual intoxication or personal misuse of any drugs or the use of intoxicating liquors, narcotics, controlled substances, or other drugs or stimulants in such manner as to adversely affect the person's ability to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician
• Must present evidence to the Office of Emergency Medical Services of a medical examination certifying physical health sufficient to conduct activities associated with patient care, including, but not limited to, visual acuity, speech and hearing, use of all extremities, absence of musculoskeletal deformities, absence of communicable diseases, and suitable emotional fitness to provide for the care and lifting of the ill or injured. This information shall be provided on a form approved by the Board and shall be consistent with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the requirements of National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
• Must disclose circumstances surrounding any conviction of any criminal law violation other than minor traffic violations, denial of professional licensure/certification, discipline, loss or restriction of licensure or certification by any other state or discipline
