Job Overview:
The Quality Supervisor will enforce GMP, quality assurance, food safety and quality control policies and programs throughout the company to verify that Biery Cheese products are manufactured consistently and in accordance to the customer expectations, regulatory and SQF standards of quality. The individual must have the ability to work off-shifts and weekends. The supervisor will assist with customer audits, and complaint management as well as perform quality & food safety training to departmental personnel.
The Quality Supervisor will be responsible for directing, training and coordinating activities of QA department staff and monitoring of the production of the finished product. Will assist in developing new and maintaining written Food Safety programs. Ensures completeness and accuracy of policy documentation and specifications. Coordinates and works with all other departments while keeping Food Safety, Quality, Customer Service and Satisfaction and Profitability in mind at all times. Provides QA support for various externally focused efforts.
The primary responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Supervisor are to provide leadership to Quality Assurance personnel and ensure compliance with Company food safety and quality standards for raw materials, processed products, and processing procedures are maintained under minimal supervision.
Essential Accountabilities:
• Lead positive employee relations programs throughout the organization
• Train, coach, mentor, empower, and develop good GMP practices with all team members.
• Monitors packaging and process cheese manufacturing operations for quality/ Food Safety compliance issues.
• Properly documents line checks and ensures accuracy in paperwork
• Review and approve process and QA documentation to release products for use within the Biery plant or to distribution.
• Develops, advises on and coordinates continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Ensures compliance with quality policies throughout all internal departments.
• Assist in preparation as needed for USDA/FDA audits, SQF third-party audits, military, and organic audits.
• Conduct and train technicians to conduct Sanitation Pre-Op inspections
• Write and implement SOPs, work instructions and form documents pertinent to establishing and maintaining high standards of functioning in both the laboratory setting and production plant.
• Primary environmental and product sampling responsibility of the Biery Cheese Environmental Program.
• Support Quality personnel needs on the production line.
• Support bulk cheese grading personnel and be able to allocate bulk cheese based on grading results.
• Complete customer COA's on a daily basis/ maintain individual customer COA requirements
• Oversees/schedules/perform weekly air sampling testing/ maintain program/ documentation.
• Assist in "Red Flag" product monitoring and new product launches
• Assist in product traceability and mock recall exercises, 3rd party and customer audits.
• Communicate deficiencies and opportunities to Quality Assurance and Operations Management.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Plans, coordinates and provide corrective action follow-up for internal audits including GMP, foreign materials and Food Defense.
• Responsible for assisting in the control and documentation of all foreign object incidents and materials found in the process.
• Verify and approve QA technicians' reports on processing parameters control daily
• Verify Temperature Monitoring of raw material cooler, finished goods coolers and processing room: Report deviations
• Trainer for QA Technicians on SOP's and train new QA Team members (SOP's, Safety, Food Safety)
• Perform new product evaluation and shelf life testing and present final reports
• Assist Production Manager, Supervisors and Leads on resolving quality issues
• Manage and schedule period equipment calibrations
• Perform raw and finished product evaluations and provide results/findings
• Conduct periodic internal GMP and food safety audits
• Responsible for following safety practices and report safety issues to Safety Manager
• Report food safety issues/concerns to management (Quality Assurance, Production or Senior Management)
• Review of all QA documentation
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Preferred 4 yr. science-related degree with at least 2 years of experience in Quality Assurance.
• Skills to guide leading teams, problem solving, tenacity and integrity.
• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize the completion of tasks with respect to importance/ deadlines
• Must understand HACCP/FSMA and the key components of a HACCP/FSMA program
• Must be able to work independently and work efficiently with little or no supervision
• Ability to research and interpret trends and potential compliance risks.
• Ability to collect, analyze and present facts in written and oral communication
• Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong technical expertise in food safety, regulatory compliance, USDA, FDA, HACCP/FSMA, SQF and GMPs
• Preferred FMSA-certified
Work Environment:
Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in production facilities, Protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves, and shoes may be required. Must be able to work in a cold environment.
Physical Demands:
Work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing and walking in a production facility, and lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment kits and product cases. Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, and reaching. Must be able to lift 50 pounds throughout the shift.
