Job Summary:
Develop and support quality, product safety, and employee safety systems within Preferred Packaging. The position will align current local processes with corporate standards and optimize for the location. It will also have responsibility for ensuring that all quality requirements including product safety are recorded, monitored, and analyzed in order to optimize process and production efficiencies and to ensure adherence to all customer specifications. Finally, the position will be responsible for validating safety standard adherence and safety committee oversight.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Safety Functions & Responsibilities:
- Assist Safety Director and Plant Manager with the development, documentation, training and implementation of company safety programs.
- Assist Human Resources in workers compensation / claims management and return to work program
- Assist safety committee in updating safety procedures and safety policy manual
- Update chemical inventories and maintain the Safety Data Sheet program to ensure OSHA compliance
- Update existing Job Safety Analysis
- Work with maintenance and department managers in creating Lockout / Tagout procedures for all equipment
- Participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings as the scribe, developing and distributing meeting agenda and minutes.
- Assist with on-site facility inspections and make recommendations to eliminate or reduce safety risks
- Update facility Integrated Emergency Response Plan
- Assist with incident investigations and work with supervisors to determine root cause and corrective action(s)
- Maintain tracking documentation of incidents, injuries, improvement suggestions, risk reduction measures, etc.
- Update safety metrics and reports that are will be distributed to departments and the broader organization
- Other tasks as assigned by Safety Director and Plant Manager
- Engage associates to build and maintain an integrated safety culture
- Conducts emergency equipment inspections
- Participate in the creation of safety talks for pre-shift meetings
- Assist with on-site facility inspections and make recommendations to eliminate or reduce safety risks
- Partner effectively with leadership to drive safety awareness and adherence to company safety policies
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
- Lead and/or perform safety audits to identify areas of non-compliance and implement solutions to eliminate risk
- Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards including risk assessment, proactive identification of potential loss sources and workplace assessments while promoting and facilitating safety innovations
- Organizes and conducts safety training as necessary.
Quality Functions & Responsibilities:
- Engage associates to build and maintain an integrated Quality and Food Safety Culture
- Oversee product safety compliance efforts with AIB, SQF, and all customer quality and food safety audits.
- Oversee review and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals, the food safety plan and the food quality plan.
- Take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF System; and communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective maintenance of the SQF System.
- Manage the Integrated Pest Management Program
- Manage quality database and analyze data for optimizing production efficiencies and manufacturing specifications.
- Develop and oversee of a formal Root Cause & Corrective Action process, including responses to customers and internal/manufacturing issues with Corrective Action Plans
- Prepare for customer and compliance audits; serve as "point person" during audits.
- Walk the plant floor interacting with Operators, Assistants and Supervision to validate performance and documentation required production testing for all pieces of equipment and products.
- Effectively communicate with Supervisors and employees on the shift regarding testing, rejections, holds, Quality and Food Safety training etc.
- Create and send Customer Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) or Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) as needed.
- Document Internal Production Holds/Rejections
- Work through Customer/Product Returns as necessary.
- Create and post Quality Alerts
- Coordinate with corporate, customers, and suppliers as needed regarding quality issues.
- Perform Product Development/Sample Order Testing as needed.
- Ensure conformance to specification requirements
- Analyze data for optimizing production efficiencies and manufacturing specifications.
- Participate in Quality Team meetings
- Partner effectively with leadership to drive quality awareness and adherence to company policies; manage site system for documentation
- Complies with all general Company-wide standard operating procedures (SOP's) and any job or department specific SOP's.
- SOP's may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Employee Health and Safety
- SQF (Safe Quality Food packager) and GMP (good manufacturing procedures) focused on eliminating contaminates in all packaging manufactured.
- SGP (Sustainable Green Printer) environmental regulatory procedures and SOP's
- SOP's may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Must work within productivity standards and completes work in a timely manner.
- Special Projects & other duties as necessary

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of industry safety practices DOT, OSHA, DEP, EPA, ANSI standards rules, regulations and guidelines
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in packaging, food or pharmaceutical field in a quality function.
- Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential information
- Excellent organizational skills and able to multi-task
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
