Job Description
The Quality Manager (here-in-after referred to as the Q.M.) will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible to ensure all aspects of quality conformance is maintained which includes inspections, generate and maintain documentation, compliance reports and welding certifications. The Q.M. may be required to perform other duties from time to time as directed by the Operations Manager.
Scope of Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible to review and create inspection plan for each project awarded to Custom Fabrication.
a) The Q.M. will be required to review all individual project requirements and specifications to understand CFI’s scope of supply and responsibilities.
b) The Q.M. will be responsible for creating an inspection plan based on the project specifications to ensure all requirements are met for the end product. The inspection plan will include, at a minimum, critical inspection points for in-process work and final completion.
2. Responsible to ensure inspections are performed as described in the Quality Control Manual. The Q.M. will ensure that critical point inspections are performed by the quality inspector during the fabrication process so as to minimize the extent and cost of re-work. The Q.M. may also be required to perform inspections from time to time.
3. Responsible to provide Quality Assurance information as required by the Customer and/or Custom Fabrication, Inc.
a) The Q. M. must maintain records of information pertaining to welding procedures, welders’ certification and, in so far as tools are available, will be responsible to inspect welds and welding quality.
b) Ensure that Inspection reports and records of surface preparation, paint application and conformance to customer requirements shall also be provided and maintained by the Q.M.
c) The Q. M. will be required to complete any final inspection reports or documents required by the customer and/or Custom Fabrication, Inc.
d) A summary project completion report is to be submitted to the President for each completed project on a weekly basis.
4. Responsible to report any errors to Shop Management.
a) The Q.M. is responsible to objectively check for and report errors and inaccuracies to Shop Management – whether observed personally or by inspections of the quality inspector. Shop Management may not always choose to make corrections at the time depending on scheduling, cost, or other considerations. Such instances should be documented for possible future reporting.
b) The Q.M. is not responsible to direct any corrective course of action to correct fabrication errors (except as dictated in the Quality Control Manual), but will be encouraged to make recommendations.
5. Responsible to maintain compliance reporting as required by the Customer and/or Custom Fabrication, Inc. The Q. M. must become familiar with all customer specifications and requirements and provide reports to the President regarding shop compliance.
6. Responsible to perform purchased item inspections as required. Certain critical items as determined by the Project Manager must be inspected upon receipt to verify conformance to the Purchase Order and project drawing(s). These items will be identified during the project-planning meeting(s) so that the Q.M. is alerted to their arrival.
7. The Q.M. will be the first point of contact for all quality related issues.
8. Responsible for creating and maintaining specific inspection & test procedures that comply with industry standards.
