We are seeking an experienced Quality Inspector in our Philadelphia, PA facility where we develop, produce and process specialized coatings and materials, primarily for the defense market. This role will lead our quality team in performing and documenting hands-on physical inspection of our product as well as review and continuous improvement of quality processes. This is a dynamic environment with continually evolving products and specifications.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance for understanding quality standards and solutions for manufacturing quality problems
- Evaluate the quality capability of processes and prove quality maintenance throughout production
- Assure the quality level of the finished product, purchased materials and components are commensurate with Coherent A&D's requirements and customer expectations
- Perform the actual physical operations of inspection, test and SPC required to provide quality control and assurance
- Appraise the quality plan for inspection and contribute to its continuing effectiveness
- Provide leadership, technical assistance and training to lower-level Optical inspectors and other departments
- Plan/Order packaging material for commercial product
- Plan and schedule workload, pull pack slips and sign off on commercial product
Education & Experience
- High School diploma
- 4+ years of experience in one or more branches of Quality Control, Quality Assurance or optical manufacturing
- Experience using micrometers and calipers in the course of component inspection as well as experience reading mechanical drawings required
- Experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment with frequent variation in components for inspection desired
Skills
- Familiarity with ISO standards are required, knowledge of ISO 9001 & AS 9100 is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Familiar with MS Office, including data entry into Excel worksheets/formulas
- Strong attention to detail in document creation and maintenance
- Ability to independently plan and organize work day to ensure timely completion of inspection tasks
- Willingness to learn appropriate optics handling & cleaning techniques and comfort with handling delicate, high-cost materials
- Comfortable working in a clean room environment as well as environments with safely handled chemicals and lasers

- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
- Work in a cubicle area - must be able to work in environment where employees are on the phone / speaking causing potential distractions throughout the day.

- Lifting: 10-25 lbs.; Pushing/Pulling: 10-25 lbs.
- Sitting Up: to 8 hours per day
- Visual acuity: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
