Quality Assurance Technician - Day Shift

JOB TITLE: QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN DAY SHIFT

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is a regular, full-time hourly position responsible for daily lab duties required to ensure the highest quality product possible. This includes monitoring and documenting the microbiological, chemical, and sensory analyses of all things related to the brewing, fermentation, and packaging processes. This individual will report directly to the QA Manager and will be required to deliver results in a timely and efficient manner.

This position works a dedicated Day Shift and, as a condition of employment, requires weekend availability.

Essential Job Functions:

• Under the direction of the QA Manager, perform laboratory analysis of Terrapin Beer Company finished goods, in process product, and raw materials to ensure the utmost quality, flavor and safety of our products. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Routine analysis of all yeast cultures;
  • Collection and analysis of wort & beer throughout production to ensure microbiological stability;
  • Measurement of dissolved gases in wort, fermentation, packaging, and finished product;
  • Monitor proper titration reagent usage in brewery, cleaning, packaging operations, etc.
  • Monitor all aspects of fermentation (Extract, ABV, pH, VDK, etc.)
  • Final package fill level and seam quality;
  • Finished product haze, IBU, and SRM;
  • Assist with the validation of new SOP's.
• Collect samples of materials & finished goods throughout the brewery for laboratory and sensory analysis.
• Data gathering, entry, and analysis.
• Assist with the administration of sensory panels and in collecting data as directed.
• In line with Company standards for communication, provide QA results and analysis with applicable brewery staff and management.
• Rigid compliance with established Company guidelines for safe and effective Quality Assurance analysis and all state & federal environmental & safety regulations.
• Responsible for maintaining Quality Assurance lab in a clean and efficient manner with safety as the top priority.
• Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on all Quality Assurance laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, Pentair DGMs, Aber PerfectPitch, Anton Paar DMA, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

Either a 2-year degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Fermentation Science, Food Science or a similar science-based degree program (or) current enrollment in a degree program in Microbiology, Chemistry, Fermentation Science, Food Science or a similar science-based degree program.

The candidate should possess a strong understanding of all areas of Quality Assurance and standardized laboratory testing in a food production environment.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and bend, twist, crouch, kneel, and stand for 8-10 hours at a time.

Must be able to work 8-10 hours shifts and be able to work varying shifts, including weekends, dependent on operational business needs of the brewery.

Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software including Excel and Word.
