Job description

The Quality Assurance Lead is accountable for the tactical leadership of our Quality Assurance initiatives and activities. This role ensures quality system requirements are established, implemented, maintained, and improved in accordance with the organizational goals.

Key accountabilities include working closely with the management team to continually improve our Quality metrics, lead ISO audits, direct Quality Assurance staff, and implement Continuous Improvement initiatives. The success of the position is ultimately defined by the satisfaction of our existing and prospective customers. Conducting part inspections and providing feedback to the production staff is a core activity. CMM proficiency and excellent GD&T knowledge are necessary.

Pay is commiserate with experience.

Position Responsibilities:

- Plan, organize, direct, and execute all activities and operations related to Quality.

- Maintain quality performance records and issue corrective actions.

- Develop quality improvement programs.

- Use database tools to identify and address quality issues and customer complaints.

- Establish and maintain QA test methods.

- Manage inspection equipment and methods including calibration.

- Supply PPAP and SPC reports.

- Evaluate current and potential suppliers.

- Train, maintain and improve the quality system.

- Monitor effectiveness of quality policies, procedures, and work instructions.

- Oversee inspection and test methods, gage controls, SPC, capability analysis, etc.

- Track and analyze NCRs, CARs, customer complaints & other metrics as assigned.

- Monitor material, in-process, and outgoing product quality at all levels.

- Coordinate and lead Quality System Audits.

- Function as a representative for third-party audits.

- Monitor corrective actions and recommendations resulting from the audits and management reviews.

- Assist in New Product Introduction Quality Planning Activities.

- Create control & inspection plans as required.

- Develop training for and train employees on quality-related practices and system requirements.

- Produce quality reports; analyze information, and address and resolve problem areas.

- Develop and lead cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues and to improve levels of quality and productivity.

- Conduct research on product defects and recommend modifications in product or quality standards where warranted.

- Actively work with production staff on new part launches to ensure quality requirements are understood and that the process is engineered to produce a conforming product.

- Communicate results of inspections with relevant parties (machinists, supervisors, programmers) in a timely manner so that any required adjustments are implemented quickly.

- Lead, with manufacturing support, the identification of quality problems and the development and implementation of corrective actions intended to prevent reoccurrence of these issues.

- Set up inspection gages when requested by machinists.

- Work with manufacturing (machinists and supervisions) to improve the efficiency of in-process inspection so that the critical/key features are inspected and documented with minimal disruption while still meeting customer and quality requirements.

General Skills Requirements and Qualifications:

- At least 5 years' successful, demonstrated experience in a Quality Assurance position within a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years' experience in a successful Quality Assurance leadership role; preference will be given to a candidate with a technical degree and intimate familiarity with quality systems specific to ISO 9001:2015 industry within a contract manufacturing environment.

- Exhibit excellent problem-solving skills, inter-personal skills, and planning and organizational skills.

- Proficient computer skills, including extensive knowledge and familiarity with all Microsoft applications.

- Proficient with ISO 9001:2015 requirements, with a history of passing audits.

- Strong working knowledge of APQP and Quality Management software.

- Proficient at creating and providing all levels of First Articles and PPAPs.

- CMM proficiency

- Laser scanner experience desired

- Experience with NPD (New Product Development) Teams

- Prior machining experience is desired
