Responsibilities:
- Manage quality assurance staff providing food quality and safety goals, and frequent communication to resolve problems and issues;
- Facilitate activities to ensure product quality, compliance with specifications, food safety and regulatory compliance;
- Manage weekly product sensory evaluation involving plant leaders;
- Manage Environmental Monitoring Program;
- Consult and advise plant manager on food safety and quality issues, leading problem-solving efforts including determination of root cause and preventative measures;
- Monitor and record food safety, quality or security issues and concerns; communicating and resolving any violations when observed or reported. Escalate issues and concerns as appropriate;
- Take appropriate steps to control potentially unsafe or poor-quality product;
- Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product;
- Develop, implement, and maintain HACCP and Food Safety plan, overseeing all execution of preventative controls and pre-requisite programs;
- Formulate and maintain food quality and safety objectives and coordinate objective with production procedures in cooperation with plant manager to maximize product reliability and minimize costs;
- Direct staff engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over ingredients, packaging, work-in-process, finished product and equipment;
- Monitor and address consumer and customer complaints;
- Develop KPI?s and implement complaint reduction projects in alignment with Plant Management;
- Generate ideas for continuous quality improvement and participate in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and/or program;
- Performs other required tasks as assigned.
Skills:
- USDA experience preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
- HACCP, PCQI and GFSI certified;
- Knowledge of and responsible for policies, programs and procedures to support compliance of FDA?s FSMA regulations, GFSI standards to maintain SQF certification;
- Ability to understand and execute a variety of regulatory and company procedures and policies;
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Able to work independently as well as in a team setting
- Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to effectively manage supervisors and employees
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Proven interpersonal skills and judgment in communicating with staff
- Ability to solve complex problems.
