Summit Books is seeking an organized, self-starter to join the team as Publishing Assistant. The Publishing Assistant will work closely with the Associate Publisher / Director of Publicity, Executive Editor, and Publisher. They will be responsible for all assistant duties falling under publicity and editorial, including drafting press releases, building media lists, booking author tour travel, reading book submissions, writing reader’s reports, and coordinating sales and marketing meetings. The ideal candidate will have clear written and verbal communication skills, an acute attention to detail, and keen organizational skills. The Publishing Assistant works closely with the publishing office and will report to the Associate Publisher / Director of Publicity and Executive Editor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draft press releases
- Build media lists
- Book author tour travel
- Read book submissions
- Write reader’s reports
- Schedule and coordinate agendas for in-house sales and marketing/publicity meetings
- Prepare weekly marketing update
- Annotate weekly bestseller list with sales figures
- Circulate manuscripts to Sales and Marketing
- Manage imprint budget grid and coordinate changes with the Business Office
- Coordinate materials for sales and marketing meetings
- Track pre-orders and retail distribution
- Relevant experience or internships in editorial, marketing, publicity, or sales
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet quick deadlines
- Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in and enthusiasm for book publishing
- Interest in and enthusiasm for social media
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, MuckRack, as well as general computer skills
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
