Function
The purpose of the class is to seek and acquiring local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grants and other external funding to assist the Department of Public Works in its strategic plan goals. Performs duties under the general supervision of the Public Works Administrator, City Engineer or their designee.
Minimum Requirements
- Two (2) years of undergraduate study in English, Technical Writing or related field required.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing or a related field is preferred.
- One (1) year of experience in writing proposals or reports, preparing analysis of research or related duties.
- Experience in the preparation of federal, state and local government grant proposals is preferred.
- Experience in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data is preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
- Highly organized and detail oriented, with strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and independently and effectively across departments, handling multiple projects, and under the pressure of deadlines for grant opportunities.
- Proficiency with Word and Excel.
- The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
