Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief of Public Safety, the Public Safety Associate for Investigations is responsible for conducting general Public Safety, Title IX, and interpersonal misconduct investigations. The position includes administrative functions, including using information systems, producing comprehensive investigative reports, following departmental policies and procedures, and all compliance-related issues. The Public Safety Associate may also serve as a liaison with the Los Angeles Police Department on crime issues. Public Safety associates work a 4/10 compressed schedule.
Duties and Accountabilities
1. Responsible for working closely with the Office of Student Conduct & Community Responsibility (OSCCR), and Human Resources to investigate possible violations of the LMU's Community Standards or policies, which often include investigations of criminal and non-criminal incidents reported to Public Safety, both on and off-campus.
2. Accurately gathers and analyzes statistical data contained in crime and incident reports; ensures compliance with applicable local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
3. Develops strong working relationships with LMU Campus partners, the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles City Attorney, and other municipal agencies and community groups to obtain relevant information, reports, and documents that can assist in the investigation of LMU Community Standards violations.
4. Proactively assists in solving safety, security, and pertinent criminal issues facing students, faculty, and staff.
5. Conducts timely investigations, including interviewing complainants, respondents, and relevant witnesses.
6. Appropriately handle and analyze case-related evidence and write detailed investigative reports summarizing the investigative process and clearly articulating the investigation findings.
7. Represents the Campus Safety Services- Public Safety within the internal or external community and serves on committees as required.
8. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution; problem-solving techniques; trauma-informed interviewing practices; and investigating experience.
9. Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.
10. Ability to work as part of a campus-wide community to resolve complaints neutrally and sensitively. Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with staff at all levels.
11. Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the Chief of Public Safety.
Specialized Requirements
Must be available for on-call assignments, campus emergencies, or emergencies related to on-going cases. Must be able to report for work or work past scheduled shift, to work overtime on short or no notice, to work all shifts, to work rotating shifts, and to work weekends and holidays.

Requisite Qualifications
• Typically, a Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, social work, counseling, communications, or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbents will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
• A minimum of four years of experience working in Public Safety, social work, or law enforcement conducting investigations.
• Demonstrated experience should include strong note-taking and report writing skills, following procedures for handling confidential or highly sensitive information; management of multiple conflicting priorities and case files; professional report generation; and facilitating communication between numerous parties.
• Outstanding customer support and communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by a background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, technical information.
• Ability to conduct effective and skilled interviews, using sensitivity and good judgment in dealing with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of SIM, Title IX, the Clery Act, and FERPA
• Demonstrated computer competency proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional systems, web content management, and utilization of technology for data collection, reporting, and analysis.
• Ability to interpret regulations and translate to policies and procedures.
• Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
• This position is deemed Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act.
• This position is deemed a Mandatory Reporter by University policy.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
• Requires a valid California driver's license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record as evidenced by DMV.

Salary range
$66,560.00 - $75,200.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
