                                 Public Health Nutrition Program Director

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is for a Public Health Nutrition Program Director with the Leon County WIC & Nutrition Program.


Employee works under infrequent supervision from the Program Administrator. Having specialized knowledge of the WIC program in Florida, this is a highly responsible position providing administrative oversight for the Women, Infant and Children Program (WIC) Program in the Leon County Area, known as Agency 37, covering six counties and eight clinics.  Position requires independent planning of procedure and methods to attain definite objective outcomes. Using judgement, initiative, advance knowledge of program, business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions. 


This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. Supervises employees by assigning work, reviewing progress, and assessing performance. Evaluates staff through establishment of performance standards.  Meets regularly with staff to ensure standards are met.  Makes recommendations for hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, discharging, rewarding, disciplining, and assigning duties to subordinate staff.  Plans work schedules, deadlines, and time utilization of subordinate staff. Provides breastfeeding promotion, support, and counseling to prenatal and postpartum women.

Works with the Leon Agency Breastfeeding Coordinator to ensure the Breastfeeding and Peer Counselor Program meets compliance with Federal Regulations.

 

Conducts quality assurance audits on nutrition education and administrative functions quarterly.  Summarizes and analyzes nutrition activities and services at regular intervals.  Evaluates, develops, and recommends nutrition education materials.  


Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training and other professional and staff development activities.  Plans and conducts employee meetings as well as employee in-service training as needed.

 
Coordinates the implementation of the WIC Program comprehensive plan with the overall vision of the Health Department.  Fosters the integration of WIC services with County Health Department programs and services and appropriate state and community agencies.  Participates in WIC outreach activities.


Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials to clients.  Plans and provides educational opportunities for health personnel.  Updates and revises Nutrition the Nutrition Education Plan annually.  May conduct surveys to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of resources.
Attends training and continuing education programs necessary for maintaining skills and licensure.  Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Confidentiality of information shall be maintained.


May be required to work during natural disasters and emergencies. Confidentiality of information shall be maintained at all times.
 

Complies with regulations regarding warrants, vouchers and invoices under Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 3A 24 of the Florida Administrative Code.
This person has the “Need to Know” for the following information sets:  Immunizations, Medical Records and Healthy Start.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

Develops monthly and yearly reports on the status of the WIC program

Evaluates the WIC program regularly to ensure federal and state compliance is met.

Attends meetings in the community as a representative of the WIC program for the Leon Agency.

Participates in regular audits to ensure program requirements are met.

Develops and maintains cooperation between public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies.

Provides nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion to clients.

Provides nutrition, education, and counseling to Medically High-Risk WIC clients.

Develops, documents, and monitors high and medically high-risk care plans or programs for individuals, families and/or communities.

Coordinates with health and social services according to need.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to accurately enter data into FL Wise Data system, Health Management System (Employee Activity Record) and People First.

Knowledge, skill in the application of Nutrition counseling practices, principles, and guidelines as they relate to the needs of clients.

Knowledge of basic management principles and practices including quality management techniques, process management and strategic planning.

 

Qualifications:

The applicant MUST have and maintain active and clear license to practice Medical Nutrition Therapy in the State of Florida (Florida Statute 468).

Registered Dietitian/License Dietitian

Travel required (about 10-25%)
