Position Summary
This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.
Provide routine Public Health nursing services under the protocol of the Health Department’s WIC, Well Child exams (EPSDT), and Immunization Programs. Work with families to address health issues by facilitating access to the WIC Program.
Pay Grade: 52H
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of generalized registered nursing experience; and A/D/Diploma from an accredited school of nursing; OR
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited registered nurse program; and
3. Active, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee (OR application for license transfer to TN must be in process for consideration).
4. Pediatric/nutritional health, or outpatient immunization clinic experience preferred.
5. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assesses and monitors nutritional health and development for women and children in accordance with Shelby County Health Department protocols and Tennessee Centers for Disease Control (CDC) medical safety standards.
2. Implements program strategies for public Health Services and participates in quality improvement activities of program or unit.
3. Works in partnership with local agencies and service providers to promote an integrated Public Health service.
4. Investigates clinical issues and concerns in effort to mitigate health-related risk. Informs supervisor of barriers interfering with health care assessment and provision.
5. Attends and communicates in team meetings and consult with other clinicians and professionals as required.
6. Supervises staff, conducts patient follow-up or case management, and contributes to staff development ensuring provision of quality services to the community.
7. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

1. Considerable knowledge principles of basic nursing.
2. Understanding of Public Health nursing principles.
3. Knowledge of social and economic forces affecting family and group dynamics.
4. Ability to monitor, assess, and coordinate care in accordance with protocols.
5. Ability to accurately consider data and make sound recommendations.
6. Skilled in persuasive communication.
7. Ability to professionally engage the public and co-workers.
8. Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word) or similar software applications.
Special Requirements
1. Must be flexible and available to work some nights and/or weekends.
2. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee (Licensure application must have been submitted upon date of employment).
3. Basic physical assessment course must be completed within six (6) months of employment.
4. Must maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout duration of employment.

This position is eligible for a HIRING BONUS outlined below:
1st payment of $1,500 paid after completion of six (6) months of service,
2nd payment of $1,500 paid after completion of twelve (12) months of service,
3rd payment of $2,000 paid after completion of eighteen (18) months of service.
