Job Description
The purpose of this position is to develop and implement a robust community risk reduction program for our community. This is accomplished by planning, developing, and presenting Public Education programs that address the needs of the community. Other duties include coordinating department involvement in activities such as special events, maintaining educational materials, and interacting with other City employees, citizens and the media.
Example of Duties
The following duties are not inclusive of all responsibilities and the incumbent may perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal:
- Plans and develops Public Education programs by developing lesson plans, selecting presentation methods and educational materials, and analyzing Public Education programs. Examples of these programs include but are not limited to: fire extinguisher training, Exit Drills in the Home, etc.
- Documents Public Education programs to include the number of attendees and demographics of the attendees of the program.
- Analyze the Public Education programs by collecting data and evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
- Schedules, coordinates and responds to Public Education program requests from the public, businesses and school districts.
- Develops public fire prevention and education programs for the school districts and establishes a working relationship with the school districts.
- Coordinates and ensures staffing for Public Education programs by the appropriate divisions of the League City Fire Department.
- May assume the role of Fire Department's Public Information Officer and will be responsible for updating the fire department's website and social media sites to provide up-to-date, timely, and accurate content to followers.
- This emergency essential position will report to the Emergency Operations Center during emergencies and would assist within the Joint Information Center to ensure that accurate information is being provided to the community via multiple media outlets for Fire and EMS operations.
- This position would be subject to emergency call back for disasters and shall meet the DOT drug/alcohol testing standards.
- Attends fire and life safety training conferences and class to keep up to date on current trends within fire prevention and life safety.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field
- At least one year of experience in fire prevention, safety, or closely related experience.
- Prior direct experience may be considered as substitution for educational requirement
