Trinity Industries is searching for a talented team player to fill the open position of Public Affairs Specialistin our Dallas, Texas office!
In this role, the Public Affairs Specialist will assist in Public Affairs issues and project management, of Trinity Industries, Inc., and its subsidiaries, (“Trinity”) in federal, state, and local Public Affairs issues.

What you’ll do:
- Conducts daily development of news and market clips gathered from various informational resources for compilation into a single product containing governmental news, pending legislation, market news and updates that impact company operations
- Conducts daily monitoring of federal and state bills, committee meetings and hearings that impact company operations
- Maintains departmental records, filings, and databases
- Develops and maintains key governmental profiles
- Maintains database of industry relations activities and tracks status of legislation
- Develops key election cycle products concerning all candidates in company-impacted areas
- Works with PAC administrator for contribution requests and assists with company PAC administration
- Assists in developing company PAC communications to include newsletters and other company publications
- Assists in maintaining PAC records to include PAC Board minutes, contribution tracking and contribution plans
- Examines wide ranging federal, state and local legislative and regulatory issues to identify business impacts
- Assists in federal and state lobbying between legislative and agency entities
- Provides regular reports on potential opportunities and tracks legislation affecting Trinity policies and practices
- Coordinates specific projects for state and local involvement impacting business units
- Works in cross-functional teams consisting of product management, marketing and sales/operational personnel in support of organizational goals
- Conducts other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Public Affairs
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 year’s work experience in the Public Affairs or government relations field
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Experience in federal and state government relations
- Experience in Public Affairs practices and processes
- Possesses ethical research and analysis techniques
- Must be a self-starting and creative team player, who is mission focused and works well individually and in a small team setting
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
- Ability to accurately investigate, prepare and develop reports, issue management tools (slides, photos, booklets) in timely, cost effective manner
- Ability to present a positive image in representing the Company and promoting its brand at legislative meetings, conferences, conventions, town hall meetings, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with company personnel, elected officials, legislative staff and others within the industry
