Junior Public Affairs Specialist
A Junior Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of public relations and communications strategies for an organization. They support the Public Affairs team in various activities such as drafting press releases, preparing communication materials, monitoring media coverage, and organizing public events. They may also assist in managing social media accounts, conducting research, and providing general administrative support to the department. The Jr Public Affairs Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining the organization's positive public image and ensuring effective communication with the public, stakeholders, and media outlets.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Junior Public Affairs Specialist : $60K – 70K.
Pay commensurate with experience.

Junior Public Affairs SpecialistResponsibilities Include:

• Create written and visual communication products, such as fact sheets, news stories, press releases, campaigns, infographics, etc.
• Produces visual mission products (e.g. presentations, print collaterals, templates, posters, flyers, etc.).
• Research, gather, evaluate and interpret technical information for journalism products, technical documents and analysis tools.
• Communicate professionally in person, on the phone and email with clients, subject matter experts and stakeholders.
• Assists with data management projects through research, reporting and tracking vital information.
• Fact checks and performs quality assurance/quality control on completed products.
• Assesses current communication platforms, evaluate effectiveness, and make recommendations for improvement.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Junior Public Affairs SpecialistExperience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or similar field
• 1-3 years communications/multimedia/Public Affairs or public relations experience.
• Must be a self-starter with excellent time management and interaction skills and possess a willingness to learn.
• The ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, and Adobe design software (i.e. InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is preferred.
• Design skills including basic image creation, layout, and infographics.
• Experience with Visio and SharePoint is preferred.
• Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Experience with writing/editing i.e. journalism & technical writing.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of AP style and experienced editing capabilities are highly preferred.
• The ability to pass a drug screen and background check is required.
• Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
