Provide psychiatric nursing care to individuals. Including but not limited to:
- Providing clinical case coordination with other staff.
- Acting as a liaison with other care providers (i.e. therapists, prescribers, etc.) to coordinate individual treatment.
- Assisting the individual in accessing medication and psychiatric care.
- Assessing and coordinating clinical needs of caseload.
- Collaborating with other treatment team members in planning therapeutic interventions.
- Complete nursing assessments, provide education and support.
- Work within broad policy and organizational guidelines and within the scope of practice of a licensed registered nurse.
- Interacts with insurance companies regarding prior authorization of medications which requires chart reviews for medication history and completion of the appropriate forms via phone, fax or other electronic means.
- Psychiatric nurse performs individual assessments to determine current mental status, evidence of decompensation, related medical issues, lethal ideation, and positive or negative response to medication.
- Provides clinical interventions and intervenes in emergency situations, as needed.
- Prepares and administers medications via injection.
- Call or e-scripting medication orders to various pharmacies and document the same. Interacting with Pharmacy staff to clarify orders, resolve issues, ensure individuals can obtain their medications, etc.
- Psychiatric nurse documents nursing assessments and interventions in the individual’s electronic medical record in compliance with quality assurance and licensure standards. Ensures completion of the necessary paperwork to secure insurance authorization and payment.
- Maintains individual’s confidentiality.
- Organizes and supervises psychiatric clinics; Works proficiently with on-site as well as Tele-Medicine prescribers.
- Independently plan and implement individual care and projects and report progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in nursing.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES:
- Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a reciprocal state (according to the Nurse Licensure Compact as prescribed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing).
- May require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
