Overview

We are currently re-starting our Survey Group in Central Iowa and are looking for a self-motivated Land Surveyor with the desire to lead this group to serve Iowa clients statewide.

We utilize Trimble land surveying equipment including S5, S6 and S7 total stations, TX6 terrestrial LiDAR, MX9 Mobile LiDAR, R6, R8s, R10, and R12i GNSS receivers, TSC5 and TSC7 data collectors, DJI rotary wing and SenseFly fixed wing UAV’s, digital levels, along with advanced GIS data collection applications.

Summary

We are currently seeking a Project Land Surveyor that is eager and motivated to help Lead and Grow our Land Survey Group in Central Iowa. In this position, your focus will be on performing land surveying tasks for Land Development, Transportation, Water, and Governmental Services projects including residential and commercial subdivisions, roadway and municipal improvements, plats and legal descriptions to list just a few. This position will operate as the supervisory Iowa Registered Professional Land Surveyor working with HR Green project managers, engineers, clients, and contractors. Responsibilities will also include collaboration with our Iowa GIS Group. Our GIS Group is made up of highly technical GISP’s who provide a great resource to improve our real time data collection methods and techniques, while an IAPLS will ensure the accuracy meets the project requirements.

The Project Land Surveyor is a licensed professional who acts as an authorized agent of the company and is responsible for delivering technically sound products that meet and exceed the needs of clients. Is responsible for completing assigned work with only general direction from the Group Leader (if applicable) or Project Manager. May be responsible for assisting with marketing, business development, project management and client communication on a limited, or assigned basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts or supervises research of public records in connection with land surveys.

• Conducts or supervises field surveys associated with land surveys.

• Writes easement descriptions and prepares easement plats.

• Writes legal descriptions and prepares plats in connection with land surveys.

• Performs or supervises various surveying functions including topography surveys, construction surveys, etc.

• Monitors and pro-actively identifies or corrects technical, schedule or financial issues through effective communication with the Project Manager or other management staff.

• May participate in preparation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work.

• Independently communicates on technical matters with the client.

• Participates in field survey work as defined in the Staff Land Surveyor position description.

Education/Experience

The Project Land Surveyor must have at least five or more years of experience in land surveying. Advanced knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, etc.), CADD software and other engineering automation tools. Must be capable of correctly operating technical analysis equipment and computer equipment after being provided training. Must possess strong technical verbal and writing skills. Must be able to read and interpret technical literature and engineering plans. Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply engineering/land surveying knowledge toward solving assigned tasks and engineering/land surveying activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Non-supervisory position but provides technical and task leadership to direct activities of junior professional and technical staff members. May lead to potential Group Leader role for the Iowa Survey Group depending on performance, which would include supervisory responsibility for 1-5 surveyors.

Extent of Authority

Has authority to act in a professional capacity on survey projects and will sign the work product as a licensed Land Surveyor. Advises the Project Manager when scope or budget changes are required. Seeks approval of the Project Manager before deviating from the scope of work or contract between the firm and the client.

Relationship to Others

Works under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager – Geospatial or Team Leader. The Project Land Surveyor must exhibit maturity, professionalism, and a willingness to solve internal and external client problems. He/She must demonstrate two-way communication to effectively work with internal staff and external clients. While not the direct supervisor of all employees assigned to his or her project team, he or she must relate well to staff members, provide necessary technical guidance and assist in their continuing professional advancement. Is expected to participate in external activities representing the firm, including membership in professional associations, public task forces/committees or other community/technical outreach opportunities.

Certificates and Licenses

Must have received a professional Land Surveyor license from the applicable state in which he/she will operate. Must possess a valid state driver's license and must be able to drive a vehicle.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Must be capable of carrying up to 40 pounds of equipment over all types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to transverse on all types of project sites including industrial, commercial, and undeveloped ground.

Must be willing to travel on short- or long-term assignments at client locations to complete assigned work.
