POSITION:Project Geologist, Environmental Engineer or Environmental Scientist

LOCATION: Flexible - New Jersey


POSITION SUMMARY


AEI Consultants is currently hiring for a project level Geologist / Engineer / Environmental Scientistto join our expanding Site Mitigation team. We are seeking a professional addition to our team to provide project management and technical oversight and leadership on environmental projects, design and implement subsurface investigation activities, navigate regulatory processes, prepare investigation reports, mentor junior staff and act as an advocate for our clients with regulatory agencies, and support AEI’s growth in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project leadership and perform in the senior technical role on moderate to complex and mid to high budget projects
  • Responsible for ultimate project management, technical quality and budget control
  • Maintains relationships with regulatory agencies and ability to perform as a strong client advocate
  • Project professional and technical support at the business development, project management, staff and/or corporate level
  • Exceeds applicable utilization, margin and growth goals as a team member and lead
  • Provides technical support to AEI staff
  • Requires minimal oversight and supervision
  • Responsible for project design, implementation, reviews and oversight
  • Interprets data and has a strategic understanding of required next steps
  • Develops subcontractor relationships and on-boarding of subcontractors
  • Responsible for all phases of the project from project scope preparation, implementation, and advancement of the project through regulatory processes to closure, as may be needed
  • May provide mentorship and technical leadership within regional team to field staff and to AEI sales personnel
  • Obtains and adheres to the Company required Health and Safety Training Program and Practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience (5-10+ years) designing, budgeting, and leading environmental subsurface investigations
  • Previous experience (5-10+ years) designing, budgeting, and leading detailed site characterization and remedial investigations
  • Expertise in soil, groundwater, and soil vapor investigations, including project design and estimating, field techniques, and reporting, with up-to-date knowledge of best practices
  • Experience evaluating data and preparing technical reports presenting the results of field sampling activities including a detailed understanding of the application of human health risk-based screening levels
  • Proven ability to present highly technical data to client decision makers who may have a limited understanding of environmental concerns and their potential risks
  • Practical experience or relevant knowledge of State and Federal environmental laws and regulations, low-threat closure policies, experience and good rapport with regulatory agencies required
  • Proven client advocacy with regulatory agencies and stakeholders; the ability to move projects forward even with difficult case workers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong business acumen
  • Flexibility to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor, leader, and mentor willingness and ability to perform a wide range of project tasks, as necessary (i.e., client management, cost estimating, business development support, field work, report writing and review, etc.)
  • Ability to think critically through a project from conception to completion
  • A self-starter, resourceful, with an attention to detail and the ability to work productively and independently on multiple concurrent projects under strict deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current OSHA 40-hour "HAZWOPER" training certification strongly preferred; additional Health and Safety training a plus

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or similar field required, MS/ME preferred

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • PG Certification preferred; PG certifications in multiple states a plus


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work environment may be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work takes place in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work requires the ability to effectively perform work in all types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, type, handle office and/or field equipment, speak and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
