Project Engineer - Tier 4

We are looking for a Project Engineer Tier 4 who will assist the Project Manager and Project Superintendent(s) in carrying out all necessary duties related to the contraction of the assigned project(s).  We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer who completes tasks from start to finish with precision, thoroughness, and on schedule, with a strong team attitude to ensure a successful project outcome.

YOU ARE A MULTI-TASKER AND HIGHLY ORGANIZED. You can effectively manage multiple project tasks at a time, being pulled in multiple directions, and can prioritize urgent matters as they arise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

In the first 30 days and ongoing:

• Learn Eleven Western Builders services, processes and procedures, and business lines.
• Meet with Project Engineers and Project Managers to understand job flow and project responsibilities.
• Learn the project processes, and team members review the specifications, plans, and other documents. 
• Attend meetings and visit the job site to become familiar with the project and understand the project’s current status, immediate needs, and next steps.   
• Become thoroughly familiar with the Project Drawings and Specifications (including the General Conditions), Owner Contract, and Subcontracts.
• Thoroughly review and track all submittals for EWBI, Subcontractors and Vendors to verify their compliance with the Contract Documents and coordination with other building components. Upon approval of submittals, expedite material procurement and delivery and coordinate with other building components.
• Assist Project Manager and Project Superintendent in preparation for Weekly Progress Meetings with all Subcontractors on the Project. Take minutes of such meetings and distribute weekly.
• As assigned, oversee the coordination process of primary Subcontractors (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, drywall/framing, etc.). Conduct regularly scheduled Coordination Meetings and issue minutes.
• Prioritize, submit and monitor Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Assist Project Manager and Project Superintendent in coordinating all aspects of construction for assigned Subcontractors.
• Assist in quantity takeoff to verify estimated quantities and assist in the tracking and reporting of quantities
• Research new construction means and methods and equipment information as required/necessary and as directed by the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager.
• Maintain a current set of Contract Documents, including As-Built Plans.
• Assist in the Project specific safety and accident prevention program.
• Project a positive public and community image of EWBI at all times.
• Learn project management software, i.e., Sage 300 and ProCore.
• Build positive working relationships with Project Engineers, Field Superintendents, General Superintendents, Subcontractors, Accounting team, Contract Administrator, Project Managers, and Leadership.

By the 90-day mark and ongoing:

• Assist in preparing construction schedules, submittal schedules (Material and Equipment Log), EWBI, and/or Subcontractor schedule of values for payment, obtaining permits as necessary, and performing other start-up coordination tasks as assigned.
• Distribute Plans and Specifications after the award of the Project as assigned.
• Assist in the review and updating of cost reports and schedules.
• As assigned, prepare and issue all back charges to Subcontractors and Vendors upon completion of the back charge work. Monitor same for collection.
• Review and verify Payment Applications from Subcontractors and Vendors for approval by Project Manager.
• Prepare Change Proposal Requests and assist in the negotiation and resolution of Change Proposal Requests. Prepare cost report maintenance and Subcontractor Modifications after approval of Change Orders.
• Assist in Subcontractor Pre-installation Conferences and preparation and monitoring of the TQM Program. Assist the Project Staff in improving quality in all tasks.
• Verify Subcontractor’s have met insurance requirements prior to coming on the job site.  Assist with collection of lien waivers, insurance, and other documents as requested by Project Accountant and Contract Administrator respectively.
• Prepare the detailed Project specific closeout log. Utilizing the log, track and implement Project closeout requirements.
• Throughout each project, proactively communicate with the project team with project updates and any issues.

Within the 6th to 9th-month mark and ongoing:

• Can manage difficult situations and/or urgent matters when necessary, in a respectful and professional manner.
• Problem-solve in fast-paced environments, and maintain a professional and positive attitude.

By the 12th month mark and ongoing:

• Is a fully integrated member of the team, able to consistently and proactively managing multiple project submittals and close-outs from start to finish.
• Bring project tasks to completion on schedule, troubleshooting issues with professionalism and poise.
• Exhibit a positive attitude and drive when working on all projects, simple or complex, working to deliver the best outcome for our clients.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• 5+ years of experience in the commercial construction industry required
• Must be able to read and understand project plans and specifications and complete accurate take offs
• Knowledge of general contracting and sub-contracting process, how to construct a building, terms, methods, and scheduling
• Ability to learn how to effectively utilize Sage 300, Procore, and Business Management Software throughout each construction project
• Advanced level working experience with computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook, and edit/markup Adobe PDFs (BlueBeam preferred)
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
