Job Description
Job Title: Project Engineer
Work Location: Detroit, MI
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee construction management of on-going civil construction project for dam safety renovations
- Review contract plans and specifications as well as the 3-D model and example submittals
- Review submittals (shop drawings) for concrete monoliths for lock chambers
- Review contractor’s Quality Assurance Plan and Safety Plan
- Oversee and perform three-phase inspections and surveillance of construction work to ensure the work is in accordance with the contract and specifications
- Experience with reinforced concrete and reviewing reinforcing drawings for relevancy to the project requirements (mass concrete experience preferred)
- Review of design, comment logging and back-checking for Design-Build projects
- Monitor submittals utilizing a submittal status log
- Review and comment on the accuracy of the construction contractor’s requests for payment
- Review and acknowledge daily reports including verification of the project schedule by indicating the activities worked on that day and the activities behind schedule
- Maintain orderly working files for correspondence, minutes of meetings and conferences, payments, updated progress schedules, monthly progress reports, punch lists, field changes
- Review and process Requests for Information (RFI), and contract documents including amendments, notices to proceed, change orders, modifications, and other locally generated documents developed during the course of construction
Education and Experience:
- 7+ years of engineering and construction management experience
- Experience with construction administration and capability of handling large civil works projects
- Bachelor of Science Degree; Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering
- Knowledge of dam construction and safety modification
- US Army Corp of Engineering or other federal project experience, preferred
- Experience with Resident Management System (RMS), preferred
- Relevant experience with reinforced concrete and reviewing reinforcing drawings as well as review submittals (shop drawings) for concrete monoliths
- Experience in Revit is also preferred
- Experience reading construction plans and specifications
- Good written communication and organizational skills
Physical Requirements:
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry survey instruments and equipment
- Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
