The Prince George's County Government Department of Public Works & Transportation is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Project Engineer position, grade G23, within its Highway & Bridge Design Division.
About the Position:
This is entry level professional level engineering position within the Highway and Bridge Designs Division, Office of Engineering and Project Management. The incumbent is required to apply basic engineering principles for the resolution of assigned problems and projects related to the implementation of the County's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the Highway and Bridge Design Division. What You'll Do:
- Performs supervisory level engineering management duties in support of the county's Capital Improvement Projects under the guidance of higher level engineers and Division Chief.
- Provides professional engineering and technical support that requires the application of basic engineering principles for the resolution of assigned problems and projects.
- Develops and reviews project resumes, negotiation of Architectural/Engineering consultant services, direction of design services, detailed plan review and utility relocations.
- Develops and reviews project resumes, negotiates architectural/engineering (A/E) consultant services.
- Coordinates each project through designated phases from scope development through final project close out.
- Develop and edit road and drainage design projects utilizing CADD to assist the agency in developing simple design plans in-house and in reviewing and editing submitted plans to improve the final design product.
- Develops comprehensive CIP project scopes, resumes, and schedules which define services to be provided by the County's A/e consultants for large and complex projects.
- Identifies and selects safety enhancement projects by evaluation and prioritization for departmental goals
- Maintains close contacts and awareness of events which relate to or may impact assigned projects, including monitoring related projects under design or in project planning stages by other transportation agencies.
- Tracks the status of highway maintenance, utility, and development projects and keep abreast of the County's transportation master plan relative to each roadway and highway construction projects.
- Reviews, evaluates and analyzes technical submittals related to complex designs prepared by the County's A/E design consultants.
- Performs exacting technical reviews and assessments for each project in sufficient detail to assure technical feasibility, practicality and completeness of each design.
- Develops, reviews and monitors the implementation of complex contractual agreements for A/E consultant design and construction management services and construction contracts. Prepares agreements, assembles contract documents, processes contract documents, reviews fee proposals, reviews, approves and processes invoices.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering or related scientific field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction).
- A Professional Engineer (PE) License may be substituted for the degree.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Architectural, Construction or Environmental Engineering.
- Two years of professional experience in project management.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification issued by the State of Maryland (if not a licensed PE in the State of Maryland).
- Professional Engineer (PE) License registered in the State of Maryland.
- Strong proficiency in computer aided design drafting (CADD), preferably Microstation and/or Open Roads Designer.
- Strong proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS), preferably ArcGIS Pro.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Access.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
- Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.
