Senior Project Engineer

Hayward, CA – Onsite

Rate - $70/hr on w2

Skills: Chemical, Mechanical, Capital Projects, Leadership, Process Safety Management (PSM), Environmental, Safety and Health (EH&S), Front-End Loading (FEL) and Design, LEAN Construction Methodologies

MUST HAVE

  • 4-years degree in engineering (Chemical Process or Mechanical).
  • 5+ years of experience leading capital projects, preferably projects greater than $500,000.
  • Experience working with full-service design and construction contractors.
  • Experience improving performance and capability including demonstrated courage to challenge the status quo.

Responsibilities:

The Capital Project Team Leader (PTL) – Minors and Small Projects is the single point of accountability for the end-to-end project process necessary for a Capital Project to deliver on business objectives. Clearly sets overall Project Leadership Team direction and expectations. The PTL provides the primary interface between the Project Leadership Team and the Business and leads all necessary communication forums.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leads cross functional capital project teams (including contract engineering team members) to meet business objectives.
  • Engages the project steering or leadership team as needed to ensure alignment with business, address any needs or concerns, make individual project direction decisions, and provide status updates throughout execution of projects.
  • Provides leadership for an effective and cohesive team by ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood.
  • Ensures applicable project deliverable are accomplished in a quality manner and leads the project gatekeeping reviews.
  • Leads the team in identifying non-capital alternatives or lower capital options.
  • Ensures excellence in adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM), Environmental, Safety and Health (EH&S), Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance (MIQA) requirements, export controls and trade secrets principles, and other core value standards, processes and procedures.
  • Facilitates economic evaluations, prepares funding requests, forecasts capital and non-cap expenditures and asset write-offs, and ensures necessary financial reporting and accounting is performed.
  • Ensures only changes consistent with the business and project objectives are approved.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, including auditing work processes and deliverables for compliance, and for meeting agreed upon project quality requirements and expectations.
  • Work with business and technical leadership to identify and comply with any US Export Control and Trade Secret/Intellectual Property/Security requirements for the project.
  • Primary interface on Front-End Loading (FEL) and Design/Procurement of assigned capital projects.
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity or ability to quickly learn the clients preferred tools including SAP, Ecosys, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Support the preparation of all documents needed to complete FEL and execute production design and procurement.
  • Provide oversight for construction management and at times during execution, daily field contract administration.
  • Champion productivity improvement strategies including LEAN Construction Methodologies.
  • Drive full integration of project team to develop deliverables in the most cost effective and efficient way.

Qualifications:

  • Required: 4-years degree in engineering (Chemical Process or Mechanical preferred).
  • Required: At least 2 years (prefer >5 years) of experience leading capital projects, preferably projects greater than $500,000.
  • Required: Experience working with full-service design and construction contractors.
  • Desired: Prior experience improving performance and capability including demonstrated courage to challenge the status quo.
  • Capabilities Required for this Role (Knowledge Skills & Abilities).
  • Strong Communication skills – Written, verbal, and presentation skills are all needed to collaborate effectively with teammates and stakeholders.
  • Learning agility - A personal drive to learn, pivot when necessary, and adapt to the changing needs of the site as customer base and budgets change.
  • Business judgement - Awareness, understanding, and navigation of our business to enable improvement or development of solutions that improve our business and our customers’ experience.
  • Functional skills - Deep understanding of capital project execution, including estimating, scheduling, design, prioritization, change management and contractor management. Knowledge of best-in-class Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Demonstrated ability to drive results and think strategically.
  • Organizational skills - Having and using the knowledge of our organization’s systems, procedures, and culture to identify issues and/or opportunities and act on them in a way that meets the needs of customers and magnifies your impact.
