SUMMARY:

In partnership with the Project Manager and Project Designer, the Project Architect has responsibility for the project’s financial performance and team communication. Responsible for the issuance and content of deliverables, technical content of Johnston documents, coordination of disciplines and consultants, and for the supervision of all staff producing documents. Primary responsibility for the implementation of Construction Phase Services in collaboration with the Project Manager. Responsible for securing QA reviews and the implementation of comments. Must be a licensed Architect and is responsible for signing/sealing drawings. Needs to participate in and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of design experience.
  • 5 years of experience working on architecturally significant buildings.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines. LEED accredited is a plus.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Monitors the design process to ensure the overall design intent of the project is properly executed and incorporated into the detailed documentation.
  • Responsible for technical resolution and coordination of a project.
  • Effective communication with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentation.
  • Performs product research. Assists Project Manager in writing specifications.
  • Knowledge to check completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
  • Along with the Sr. Project Architect, creates strategy for producing the documents. This includes defining how data will be organized and which elements will be incorporated in a Building Information Model (BIM).
  • Works with Sr. Project Architect to set up project team software parameters and manages standards.
  • Has strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements.
  • Works with Sr. Project Architect to ensure that construction documentation conforms to quality assurance and best practice standards.
  • Supervises preparation of technical drawings.
  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Participates in business development meetings with team leaders to target specified project, client, or market opportunities.
  • Coordinates and tracks shared electronic documentation and files with project team, clients, and consultants.
  • Meets with municipal building department and other governing agency officials to coordinate approvals or variances.
  • Attends on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings. Prepares and coordinates the review of contractor’s schedules, submission of shop drawings and samples.
  • Works with Specification Writer in product research, consulting with manufacturers, and evaluating and selecting project-related materials.
  • Participates in review of project costs and budgets, and adherence to schedule.
  • May prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and build models for client.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Good knowledge of QA/QC process.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Good experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup.
  • Proficiency in Newforma preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead a team and work effectively with other project leaders.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
