The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Accountant to be located out of our West Palm Beach, FL office.
This position is responsible for accounting onsite or in the office, related to preparation of monthly owner billings.
What You’ll Do Every Day:
- Properly code and process all voucher information attributed to assigned projects.
- Submit monthly progress payments to the project manager and project superintendent for subcontractors.
- Verify all invoice extensions and discount information prior to processing payment. Monitor payable and retainage information for all subcontractors and vendors. Manage distribution of vendor payments.
- Reconcile payment summary for each vendor on an assigned project(s),
- Review contracts for release of retainage and notify project manager of upcoming releases.
- Review/file commitments according to job, verifying the accuracy of sales tax and retainage notations as well as insurance and bond requirements.
- Work with the project team to resolve any discrepancies between invoice and commitments.
- Set up, monitor, and close out all work orders and cost packages associated with assigned projects. Assist project team with cost information and reporting as needed.
- Set up appropriate cost codes as needed on assigned jobs. Prepare monthly progress billings to clients.
- Identify and report to the project team discrepancies involving payables and receivables.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn the monthly profit projection process.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand how the job costing system interfaces with the general ledger, project management, and estimating systems.
- Train project team on accounting processes as required.
- Preparation of monthly owner billing including updating G702 and G703
- Identify and reconcile discrepancies month over month on Owner billings.
- Attention to detail required
- Proficiency in complex excel formulas (with ability to identify and correct formula issues)
- Experience with Direct Purchase Orders preferred
- Experience with CCIP Insurance preferred
- Construction experience preferred
- Other duties and projects as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: An associate’s degree is required in a related field.
- Experience:A minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience with basic accounting and invoicing is desired. Construction Experience Preferred.
- Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook, with the familiarity to complete advanced functions in Excel (i.e. pivot tables, vlookup, formulas). Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, electronic filing system, etc.) and the interplay between the designated job costing system.
