About the Department:

Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) is where students discover connections and community. It is where students live, where they gather, where they improve themselves, each other, and their university. DASA is where students seek guidance and support, both in and outside of the classroom. The division serves all students at NC State through three integrated components: academic affairs, student affairs, and University College.
NC State was named a great place to work in the 2022 Forbes annual survey as the best large employer in North Carolina. The Division of Academic and Student Affairs is the place to work for faculty and staff who are passionate about promoting the success of the whole student.
University Housing serves as a unit within DASA. For more information regarding the mission, vision, and values of University Housing, we encourage applicants to review the University Housing website.

Essential Job Duties:

A Living and Learning Village is a place where students, staff, and faculty are engaged around common learning outcomes to Think and Do in a shared residential environment. Villages provide connected curricular and co-curricular experiences to foster a sense of belonging, cultivate an intellectually enriching environment, and support the development of the whole student. As content-area professionals, Village Directors sustain all aspects of the program’s day-to-day operations, programmatic leadership and long-term vision and strategic planning for Village enhancement and growth. In alignment with invested strategic partners in academic and campus units as well as University Housing’s Residence Education Model (REM), the Village Director creates and implements holistic experiential learning opportunities for students.
As one of our 15 Living and Learning Communities, the Honors Village offers approximately 400 University Honors Program students opportunities to be active members of a community that connects students to the high-impact experiences essential to a transformative undergraduate experience. The village collaborates with other campus units to design and implement initiatives emphasizing research, service, leadership, and professional development. Village residents also have access to off-campus educational experiences that allow students to learn and reflect in North Carolina, the United States, and abroad.
The village community welcomes students from all colleges and majors. This means that village residents will live with classmates in their courses for study groups and group projects and will also learn, work, and engage with students from other disciplines who all share one thing in common – the desire to excel in the classroom and beyond. Village residents have access to special HON seminars developed for village residents, Honors Forum activities in the village, and special courses that connect students to high-impact experiential learning. The village provides classroom spaces, a computer lab, and an outdoor volleyball court. There are indoor and outdoor spaces for focusing on academics, connecting with peers, and relaxation.
In University Housing, the Program Director develops and facilitates engaging high-impact experience strategies that promote transformative learning through our residence education model for all students who opt into the village experience. The Program Director cultivates and sustains collaborative relationships within University Housing and across NC State to foster a sense of belonging, mattering and community to maximize learning, optimize resources and to achieve desired learning goals. In alignment with the University, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs’ strategic goals and in support of University Housing’s operation, the Program Director provides oversight for the day-to-day programmatic efforts, including administration, outcomes assessment, student staff supervision, supporting recruitment and outreach efforts, and actively participating in move-in and move-out initiatives.
There are two critical components of the Village experience: Living and Learning. The Program Director works closely with the Director of the University Honors Program and larger team to integrate learning through curated in class and beyond high-impact experiences with emphasis on research, service, leadership and professional development.
