This Program Coordinator role reports to the Assistant Director and supports advisement, training and oversight of Student Governance Department cocurricular programs within the Involvement and Engagement (I&E) unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The department oversees three shared-governance organizations including the UTA Ambassadors, student government association, and the graduate student council.
Responsibilities include a variety of programmatic and administrative duties within the department requiring moderate exercise of independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to make decisions relative to department operations. In addition, this position oversees and coordinates marketing and communications initiatives for the Involvement & Engagement unit.
- Primary staff advisor to the UTA Ambassadors which includes:
- The programs coordinated and sponsored through the organization such as: “Ask Me” Days!, MavSwap, Spirit Week.
- The Ambassadors’ participation in Parent & Family Weekend.
- The Maverick Speakers Series.
- The promotion of The Maverick Way.
- Serves as a secondary advisor to the student government association and graduate student council. Including attending select meetings and events and activities.
- Coordinates marketing and communications initiatives for the Involvement & Engagement unit. Including supervision of students to assist in managing digital content and unit efforts.
- Coordinates the department’s involvement in Maverick Stampede and Homecoming programs, such as late-night shopping, Decorate Downtown, Homecoming Challenge, and the Homecoming Parade/Pep Rally.
- Coordinate the department’s involvement in New Maverick Orientation and Maventure programs.
- Track expenses and monitor budget for sponsored programs and initiatives.
- Provide supervision, training, guidance, evaluation, learning-outcomes assessment, and recognition to paid and volunteer student leaders within supervised student programs.
- Assist with departmental programs and initiatives to provide overall support to the assistant director and serve on university- and division-wide committees as deemed necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Licenses: Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License is needed. Applicant selected must provide a current three (3)-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver’s License within thirty (30) days after entering Texas as a new resident.
- Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years or more of related experience working in educational administration, student personnel/development or related field.
- Computer literacy with working experience using Microsoft 365 (Office) applications, Adobe Creative Cloud programs, digital forms, and desktop publishing.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating student-facing events and cocurricular programs.
- Solid problem solving, logical reasoning, and critical thinking and coaching skills.
- Ability to uphold policies and standards with regard to student programs and activities in a manner that is neutral to viewpoint/expressive student activities.
- Experience working with a varied student population; professional communication including excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- Experience in advising student organizations, student counseling, budget planning and management.
- Effective organizational skills, including ability to plan for future events and execute in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with various campus departments.
- Experience in training, development, and/or classroom facilitation for students and staff.
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van in order to transport students to meetings and conferences.
- Master’s degree required and three (3) years of full-time experience working in student activities, student/shared governance, leadership development, student affairs, or a related field.
- Provide a successful record of program and leadership development.
- Solid experience with assessment of student learning and program-effectiveness outcomes.
- Ability to utilize independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
