This is a part-time position. The incumbent will work up to 19 hours per week. Work schedule is to be determined.

Bilingual pay is an additional $1.01/hour, if applicable.
Under general supervision, operates City owned vehicles over designated routes according to established time schedules; transports seniors on designated routes and special events; operates the vehicles in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with state training guides, rules and regulations; loads and unloads seniors, and their belongings, such as wheelchairs and walkers, at designated stops and assures safety of seniors, provides special care and assistance appropriate for disabled seniors; performs daily detailed inspection of the vehicle including brakes, pressure gauge, air pressure and condition of tires, emergency reflectors, lights, required documents and other items according to requirements established by the California Highway Patrol; reports any mechanical defects; maintains the vehicles in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition; maintains accurate records as required and prepares reports of mileage, loads and times; inspects fire extinguishers, first-aid kits and other emergency equipment to determine that they are in proper working order; administers first aid and operates fire-fighting equipment as necessary; assists with programming at senior centers or other recreation facilities; assists in training new drivers as assigned; participates in City in-services, workshops and/or seminars as directed.
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess some experience operating a bus and/or other vehicle used to transport passengers. Must possess a California Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement as a condition of employment. Previous experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR CALIFORNIA CLASS B DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT AND A CURRENT DMV DRIVING RECORD THAT REPRESENTS A HISTORY OF SAFE AND COMPETENT DRIVING TO YOUR APPLICATION.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: knowledge of the geography of the City of Santa Ana including street conditions and roads on designated routes; safe driving practices and provisions of the CA Motor Vehicle Code and of appropriate safety precautions and procedures; Basic English usage, writing, math and record keeping.
Ability to: lift up to 50 pounds (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.).
Special Working Conditions: Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays and evenings, as needed depending on assignment, as a condition of employment.
Special Requirement:Must have reliable transportation.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hmong, Korean, or Samoan is highly desirable.
