Venice Community Housing (VCH) supports and builds equitable and inclusive communities by providing affordable housing with supportive services, education, employment programs, and public policy advocacy that advances racial and economic justice. VCH is a community-based nonprofit organization engaged in a variety of housing and community development programs. VCH owns and manages 306 units of affordable and supportive housing, as well as 28 units of Interim Housing, and is in a period of growth with an additional 500 units in predevelopment and/or construction stages.
 
The Program Assistant for Interim Housing plays a vital role in supporting transitional Housing Programs aimed at assisting homeless individuals and families in Venice and the surrounding areas. This position involves providing essential services and resources to residents, ensuring their well-being and facilitating their transition to stable housing. This position provides split services between two programs: Roots To Grow and Westminster TLC and three sites. This position reports to the Program Managers for each program.
 
The Westminster TLC program provides high-quality, short-term shared housing to families experiencing homelessness. TLC provides crisis and bridge housing and supportive services while families identify options for permanent housing. The TLC provides housing for eight families at a time, with 2 to 4 members each. The TLC is operated in partnership with the St. Joseph Center and is dedicated to supporting unhoused families transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
 
The Roots to Grow program is a transitional housing program which houses up to 20 young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 in a shared housing environment. There are two Roots to Grow houses, one in Mar Vista and one in West LA. Roots to Grow has Resident Coordinators for each house, a Case Manager, and Program Manager. This position would be an integral piece in supporting the full team as needed and would travel to both housing facilities.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct daily building and grounds inspections to ensure curb appeal and resident safety.
  • Manage inventory and storage of program supplies, including snacks, activity materials, cleaning supplies, etc.
  • Research and provide referrals for permanent housing resources for residents.
  • Coordinate food and meal supports, including Food Pantry donations.
  • Build relationships with residents, provide crisis response and conflict resolution, enforce house rules, and support resident success.
  • Organize activities, workshops, educational programs, and recreational outings for residents.
  • Supervise and care for residents' children, including safety monitoring and organizing activities.
  • Conduct room inspections, maintain cleanliness, and ensure proper turnover of units, including completion of written feedback forms for residents and report to Program Manager.
  • Advocate for residents, plan and implement supportive social service programming.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and participate in community outreach initiatives.
  • Create and make available resource lists and other information to support residents in accessing needed amenities and resources in the neighborhood.
  • Provide modeling and instruction of home care life skills as needed with particular clients.
  • Coordinate cleaning and preparation of personal areas during turnover.
  • Serve as an advocate as needed, proactively strategizing and planning supportive social service and other programming with the full program team and within VCH more broadly.
  • Continue to engage in professional development.
  • Assist with transportation, as needed.   
  • Other duties as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS             
  • At least one to two years of experience providing social services, preferably with youth or families experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience supervising children in a childcare setting is desirable.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking a plus.
  • Subject to criminal and driving background checks.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Stationary position 30% of the time. Operates a computer and other office machinery such as fax, copy machine, phone and computer. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, move inside and outside the office, buildings, moving files in and around the building, lifting file boxes etc.   Frequently moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Required to have visual acuity to perform the following tasks: operate a motor vehicle, viewing a computer terminal, reading and writing, assess participants, conduct unit inspections etc.
 
SALARY

The starting salary range for the position is $50,000 to $52,000 (paid on an hourly basis) plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, Aflac, 403 (b), vacation, sick time, 14 holidays and 2 personal days. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
