In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not sponsor Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Applicants must be legal residents of Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer, Saratoga or Washington County.
This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Program Assistant Academics I in order to be considered for permanent appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and two years of work experience in an office or customer service setting; basic proficiency with Microsoft Office software and microcomputer operation. Good knowledge of office terminology, practices and procedures; good knowledge of business arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to organize and maintain record files.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Assistant, Academics I will report to the Department Chair and perform the following duties:
• Under direct supervision of the Department Chair provides basic clerical support for the students, faculty and administration of the academic department; this position involves performing clerical duties as assigned.
• Answers telephone and directs inquiry to appropriate party.
• Provides basic information in response to inquiries concerning departmental programs and processes.
• Makes appointments with faculty or administrators for students and staff seeking assistance.
• Produces photocopies for faculty.
• Assists the Department Chair with departmental forms such as timesheets, travel authorizations, etc.
• Attends departmental and College meetings.
• Orders supplies and submits work orders.
• Maintains files, both physical and electronic.
• Assists the Department Chair in program reviews and accreditation activities.
• Utilizes MS Office or other standard software to produce correspondence, instructional materials and departmental documents.
• Performs other related as may be assigned by Department Chair.
This is a full-time 12-month, 40-hour work week position with an hourly rate of $17.78. Start date is immediate.
