Family Reading Partnership is searching for a Part-time Program Assistant to join our team!
Family Reading Partnership (FRP) connects families with young children to the joy of books and read-aloud experiences to expand their horizons. We distribute free books, host events, and provide programs to encourage literacy development though child/caregiver interaction via reading, music, and play.
FRP is committed to providing diverse and age-appropriate materials for children at each developmental stage from before birth to age five. We partner with local medical practices, childcare providers, teachers, libraries, and other organizations to further interrupt cycles of educational inequity and poverty. Position Description
The Program Assistant will help to grow and coordinate FRP’s early childhood program efforts. The Assistant will work with other FRP team members and external agencies to connect directly with caregivers, infants, and toddlers to support their journey to literacy.
Your Role:
- Plan and host activities for young children and their caregivers at our public location at The Shops at Ithaca Mall (“The Nook”).
- Distribute books and activities at community partner events across Tompkins
County.
- Assist with the design and implementation of surveys and engage in conversation to receive feedback from families.
- Assist with general tasks including book processing, toy cleaning and straightening, book delivery and pickup, etc. to support programs.
- Participate in a fun and friendly team atmosphere.
This position is a 20 hour per week role with a starting hourly rate of $18.50/hour. The work schedule includes 4-5 shifts per week (days and times to be decided at time of hiring).
Required Skills:
- Understanding of and interest in early childhood development.
- Experience presenting activities geared toward infants and preschool children and their families.
- Over the age of 18.
- Availability to work a partial day most Saturdays OR availability to work some weekday evenings until 6pm.
- Regular access to a vehicle for transporting materials.
- Interpersonal skills to talk with and listen to caregivers and children in a friendly, confident, and receptive manner.
- Proficiency in Gmail and Google Drive applications. Comfort with computers and printers and desire to learn new programs.
- Ability to lift and carry 35 lbs.
Desired Skills:
- Lived experience with young children and infants (including but not limited to childcare, parenting, library work, and high school or college credits in a related field).
- Experience speaking or understanding more than one language.
- Experience working with families and children from a variety of backgrounds and compositions.
- Knowledge of children’s books and literacy development.
Additional Benefits
