Highly respected and well-established New York based construction testing laboratory is looking for an additional Professional Engineer. The company does Special Inspections / NDT / Construction Materials Inspections in both the field and the lab. Candidate must be a New York State licensed Professional Engineer with a minimum of a BS in civil or geotechnical engineering. Ideal candidate will also possess a mechanical engineering degree.
Responsibilities will include field and lab work and supervision along with working closely with our Director in approving reports and related documents.
Ideal Previous Experience:
1. Technical Director of a Concrete Testing lab and or Special inspection Agency in accordance with CCRL, AASHTO, ASTM and IAS Accreditation standards. Minimum of 5-years’ experience required. Experience in NYC market a significant plus.
2. Experience in reviewing Concrete Compressive Strength Specimens Test Results and other applicable construction material testing for conformance to project specification, NYC Building Code and Applicable Code standards.
3. Experience on NYC projects / dealing with the NYC Dept. of Buildings is a significant plus.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervise Lab & Project Manager and through him the Materials Field & Lab Technicians.
2. Monitor daily testing schedule. Review, approve, & distribute laboratory and field test results.
3. Communicate with management, field staff and clients regarding testing services.
4. Oversee Lab & Project Manager’s maintenance and organization of testing laboratory and all lab & field equipment.
5. Oversee / Manage day to day operations of testing laboratory.
6. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Requirements:
Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. NY State P.E. license is mandatory.
Five years’ experience in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program. Supervisory experience and certified ACI Lab Technician mandatory.
Minimum ACI Certifications: Lab Tech – Level II
Strong math skills, detailed oriented and the ability to record and communicate test results accurately.
Must have a Special Inspection License and license must be up to date with NY DOB records. Must provide a list of all special inspection they are licensed to conduct and license numbers.

ICC Special Inspector:
Fireproofing, Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Structural Steel Welding & Bolting, Soils, Mechanical, Energy Code and Plans Examiner.
AWS: Certified Welding Inspector
