Northern Iron and Machine is looking for a Production Scheduler/Buyer Planner to support our St. Paul operations.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Scheduler / Buyer assists in the scheduling of assigned product lines and ensures all manufactured and purchased parts are available for production to meet customer delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures. Will analyze work center loads for effective capacity planning. Additionally, will review material requirements for actual and forecasted sales, and plans and purchases of materials necessary for production and operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scheduling
- Review the master schedule for upcoming assigned product line requirements. Develop the schedule of production for assigned product lines to ensure on time customer delivery. Advise Production Manager of potential conflicts / issues with meeting customer requirements.
- Implement schedule changes as directed by Production Manager
- Review the availability of manufactured and purchase parts for the assigned product lines.
- Acquire shop orders, purchase order due dates and manufactured parts build dates.
- Act as technical resource to purchasing, manufacturing, and other departments to coordinate efforts and to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
- Follow up to ensure assigned product lines are completed according to customer and MRP requirements.
- Adjust production schedules as needed based on part availability and customer demands.
- May maintain awareness and follow-up on back order repair requirements. May follow-up to ensure parts are shipped.
- Follow repair parts on required items.
- Follow new product lines for validation and production.
- Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
Buyer
- Issue purchase orders as required to support production requirements.
- Set up part numbers as required for purchased operations in direct support of production
- Effectively communicate purchasing requirements to platform purchasing to maximize buying opportunities
- Work to drive systematic purchases to platform purchasing to maximize buying opportunities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: 4 year degree in a related discipline.
Experience: 2 to 5 years experience in production planning, scheduling, purchasing
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTE REQUIRED:
- Demonstrates company values of honesty, caring, thinking, and success
- General understanding of the Tooling, Foundry, and Machining businesses
- Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures, including Kan-Ban systems
- Knowledge of record retention guidelines
- Excellent communication / interpersonal skills; professional demeanor; team oriented
- Strong time management skills & able to work under pressure when necessary
- Strong data entry and computer skills, including Microsoft GP and Office Applications
- Very well organized, detail oriented, and highly dependable
- Sound judgment and decision making ability
- Flexible and able to adapt to and embrace change
- Initiative in finding new and better ways to do the job
- Excellent safety attitude, reflected in daily work
- Able to systematically audit and follow up to ensure quality and correctness.
Compensation: $58,000-$72,000 per year - dependent on experience
