Summary
The successful candidate for this position will provide leadership and direction in the effective operation and maintenance of equipment and processes for Rock Receiving Facility, Phosphoric/SPA Acid Plants and Utilities for the Plant, in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. The North-end Operations Area Manager will supervise, schedule, evaluate, train, and motivate an hourly and salaried workforce of approximately 65 people. A person in this role must maintain a high level of confidentiality and provide mentorship and guidance to their personnel. The successful candidate is also expected to provide leadership in process, organizational, and personnel improvement efforts. He/she will also perform at a high level in positively relating to others and positively representing to others the views of his/her leadership. The successful candidate will be a proactive maintenance and operations leader, identifying process and equipment vulnerabilities and creating plans to act upon findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain good lines of communication among departments, crews, and other supervisors. Ensure direct reports have the training and tools to complete jobs safely and efficiently.
- Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through compliance with rules and regulations, safety, inspections, and training. Ensure environmental compliance through proper knowledge and enforcement of procedures and requirements. Maintain good housekeeping standards and expectations.
- Participate in and support the CARE About Safety Program. Ensure effective safety meetings and training are being conducted for their personnel.
- Effectively encourage new and innovative ways of thinking to improve the process and workplace.
- Set example, sustain open communications, coach hourly employees, and provide training opportunities, set goals, conduct performance evaluations, remedy employee work issues. Uphold respectful workplace policies, enforce work rules.
- Supervise operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting processes. Communicate precise processes and procedures to direct reports. Attend in-house and outside technical and supervisory seminars and training session.
- Troubleshoot, monitor, and insure proper maintenance of equipment. Complete reports and inspections as required.
- Assist with the development of an expense budget and help control costs to that budget. Develop capital project spending plans and track progress on capital projects in their area to meet spending and scheduling goals. Develop production budgets, production forecasts, and production plans and track performance throughout the fiscal year.
- Provide leadership in the plant's efforts to measure and improve employee engagement.
- Provide leadership in the continuous improvement of plant reliability and on-stream time initiatives.
- Be responsible for equipment uptime and account for equipment downtime and lost production. Organize outages to minimize equipment downtime by establishing effective cross-departmental partnerships.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4-year college or university is preferred, not required.
Relevant Experience
- 10+ years' experience in mining and/or manufacturing fields leading both salaried and hourly personnel.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with and communicate effectively with personnel in multiple departments.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding employee safety.
