Product Stewardship & Regulatory Specialist
JOB DIMENSIONS
- General purpose: provide business support for product safety and regulatory compliance pertaining to chemical hazard communication and the transport of chemical samples and commercial products. The primary focus of this role is to author safety data sheets (SDS’s), prepare chemical hazard labels for domestic and international shipments, and assist in the preparation of annual chemical reporting, such as UDOCS, Tier II and TRI.
ACTIVITIES
- Author SDS’s and hazard communication labels using a commercial software application. Produce deliverables for products, intermediates, and raw materials distributed to multiple jurisdictions in compliance with applicable chemical management regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of SDS/label regulations, chemical regulatory compliance requirements and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications for international jurisdictions.
- Partner with relevant company subject matter experts (SME’s) to obtain critical chemical identity and composition, physical property data, and health and environmental hazard information needed to conduct product hazard assessments.
- Collaborate with staff and management in R&D, Marketing, Technical Service and Manufacturing to ensure timely delivery of SDS’s and labels in support of key business objectives while maintaining compliance with jurisdictional chemical inventory registration requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for the efficient and accurate production and distribution of SDS’s and labels to drive business value.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all related global chemical management regulations and adapt to changes in the regulatory and marketplace environments.
- Respond in a timely and thorough manner to product safety inquiries regarding the company’s products received from customers, users, and agencies, and others, as appropriate.
- Support company EH&S and Regulatory Compliance policies and comply with all regulatory and internal requirements.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Current proficiency in standard office software (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation packages), as well as, the ability to learn specialized EHS commercial software applications required.
- This position requires attention to detail, the ability to interpret data, and exhibit strong technical, organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to meet deadlines and exceed customer expectations while managing multiple projects and the flexibility to compensate for changing priorities.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively with operations, laboratory personnel, and the Executive Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, EHS, or related technical discipline.
- 0-3 years of experience in safety/environmental, chemicals, and/or global hazard communication.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret jurisdictional chemical regulations is required.
Preferred:
- Experience working with commercial SDS authoring software and labeling systems.
- Hands-on experience using the EHS module in SAP.
- Relevant professional certification (e.g., SDSRP, CPPS) or the ability and desire to obtain registration within 2 years.
- Working knowledge of the following chemical regulations: Hazard Communication -Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS); HCS2012, WHIMS, CLP; Transport Classifications - USDOT, IATA, IMDG; Chemical Management Regulations -TSCA, DSL, REACH; and Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
- Knowledge of emerging trends in global, federal, and state regulations, and ability to assess their impact on hazard communication and chemical management.
- Experience working on an EHS/Regulatory team for a chemical manufacturing company.
- Experience working with computer databases.
