Overview
To better serve our research scholars, we will improve access to digital monographs by increasing the number of Open Access eBooks. NYPL will invest in an innovative effort for patrons online. We will provide for discovery and a digital access pathway for any book that a user seeks out: digitizing more books and securing digital files for books that have already been digitized, clearing rights to serve these books online, via our Digital Research Books (DRB) platform, and gathering data on how these books are discovered and used by researchers.
Reporting to the Director, Digital Products, the Product Manager for DRB partners with the Portfolio Lead to define product strategy and roadmap priorities. The Product Manager collaborates with Product Design/UX, Engineering, and Project Management teams to drive completion of user research, tech goals, and communicate to different teams, stakeholders and users at the library. Based out of the main NYPL branch location, you'll experience taking products successfully through a product development lifecycle. You will grow your skills by working with Senior Product Management leadership staff to learn multiple methodologies and techniques.
This role is temporary/grant funded for four years.
We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
- Definition of scope and deliverables as well as a product roadmap for their product area
- Developing of measures of success and KPIs for each product and release
- Go-to-market planning and adherence to a timely delivery schedule
- Strategy and outcomes around UX testing and Accessibility
- Producing high-quality products for our patrons and library staff
Teach:
- Translation of broad business and user needs into non-ambiguous requirements and product user stories for our development teams.
- Facilitating conversations with stakeholders to keep them informed on product progress, or define new business needs
Learn:
- Analysis of market trends and conduct "top down" competitive analysis to understand the current landscape, as well as "bottom up" understanding of our user needs.
Improve:
- Definition of high-quality tests and products to determine valuable new features and products.
- Identify and remove roadblocks to keep a project running smoothly
- Work with technology and project management to negotiate key aspects of a product to ensure product deadlines and scope are met
Some expectations for this role are that within:
1 month, this person will:
- Understand the different roles on the team including Portfolio Lead, Project Management, UX Designer, Technical Lead and QA Engineer
- Have familiarity with the tech stack for their product
3 months, this person will:
- Understand the roles of key stakeholders outside of the Digital Department including other divisions within NYPL and outside partnerships
- Understand current roadmap and short term goals
- Have working knowledge of their product including being able to give a demo
- Actively participate in all Scrum meetings and manage/create JIRA tickets
6 months and beyond, this person will:
- Create formal Product documentation such as Business Requirements and Acceptance Criteria
- Inform strategic roadmap
- Evaluate success based on KPIs
- Represent product to both internal and external stakeholders

Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in technology, business, psychology or related field - OR - 5 years in Product/Project Management role
Required Experience
- 3+ years experience as a Product Manager in a technology, non-profit, or media/content organization
- Experience working on a deadline and ability to be decisive about product scope, goals, user needs and resources, in order to meet product releases
- Project Management in a technology services/digital media organization
- Experience using analytic tools to define measurements of success and impact of a product
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple technical and non-technical teams to develop goals and then aggressively pursue them with minimal supervision
Required Skills

- Experience with Adobe and/or Google Analytics
- Organized, focused, extremely detailed oriented and adept at prioritization
- Thoughtful problem solver, and a demonstrable ability to negotiate many stakeholder needs
