The Opportunity

SANY America is looking to recruit a driven, forward-thinking, and highly motivated Product Manager for Small and Mini Excavators. With the deep investment and backing of SANY Group, the Americas business expects to continue to grow significantly in the coming years. Critical to this growth is the appointment of a high-quality Product Manager who can create, enhance, and drive product development of new products. He/she will be responsible for the product lifecycle, working with sales, dealers, and customers to understand product and customer requirements, defining the product development plan, and working closely with the engineering team, to deliver winning products. In the Product Manager role, SANY is looking to recruit a passionate and customer-focused leader. The role will require someone to build strong relationships with product marketing and product support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are achieved. Also critical to the role, will be ensuring that the product development strategy and execution supports the company’s overall strategy and goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role will work directly with the Sr. Director of Engineering to ensure effective product development is executed. This will require:

  • Product and Market Strategy – Understand the industry, competitors, buying trends, and end users to develop short- and long-term product strategies for products and the business.
    • Be the product line application expert, understanding how the equipment is used and application specific features and performance.
    • Understand why a customer buys a particular brand and model and what it means to Sany product strategy.
    • Keep master database of competitive specifications and determine advantages and disadvantages.
    • Complete and maintain cost and pricing structure of competitive models and develop Sany strategy for offering and pricing.
    • Understand the market and new model opportunities that will contribute to SANY’s continued growth in the market.
    • Develop and present sales training to promote sales of the product by focusing on the SANY value proposition, competitive comparisons, features and benefits, etc.
    • Assist in the development and review of marketing and sales materials.

    • Product Development and Improvement – Lead and manage the development of new products for the U.S. Market, and work with the engineering team on suggested improvements to current products to facilitate market growth.

      • Develop product requirements for new products and updates to existing products.
      • Ensure compliance with all US regulatory requirements.
      • Manage new product launch processes to ensure the product and organization are prepared to succeed with the launch of new products.
      • Participate in reviews of product design to ensure design meets product requirements.
      • Ensure product design maximizes commonality across the product range.
      • Manage prototype evaluation and testing.
      • Manage field trials on new products, documenting concerns and providing feedback to the engineering team.
      • Visit end users and dealers to gain feedback on existing products, collecting ideas for design changes to improve sales.
      • Track product cost and pricing to maintain financial viability of Sany offering.

      PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

      The Product Manager needs to be an individual with a track-record of product planning, product development and product marketing with the ability to provide specific examples of managing the product throughout the product life cycle, which includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision and working with engineers to deliver winning products. This individual will need relevant experience in working with sales, marketing, and support to ensure revenue and customer goals are achieved along with ensuring the product and marketing efforts support the company’s overall strategy and goals. He/she will bring new vision, energy, and creativity to the organization with a natural ability to engage people at all levels externally and internally.

      The ideal candidate will:

      • Have a broad level of understanding of mechanical, electrical, and structural considerations for construction equipment.
      • Demonstrated experience in understanding customer and end user applications.
      • Have a proven track record of successfully managing a product line, including product improvement strategies, and product development projects.
      • Be experienced with customers and industry professionals with a good understanding of customer expectations.
      • Experience working with remote engineering teams a plus.
      • Be adaptable and agile, people focused and the ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
      • Have a Root Cause/Countermeasure approach to problem solving (analytical vs. intuitive).
      • Process driven, detailed oriented, results driven and self-motivated.
      • Ability to build trust and credibility globally which includes winning approval from various stakeholders.

      EDUCATION and experience

      The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of industry experience, a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is a plus.

      COMPENSATION

      Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. It will include a base salary, an annual performance bonus, and other exceptional benefits.
