Product Director

Graduate School USA

Washington, D.C.

This role provides leadership and management, primarily for Graduate School USA's Federal Financial Management curriculum (Accounting, Budgeting, Appropriations Law, Financial Management and Travel Regulations), and secondarily to the Government Auditing training curriculum. These responsibilities include portfolio, course types, course content, and SME management. This role is also responsible for growing the training business by establishing an optimal product mix through product development (in partnership with the Learning Development team), product marketing (in partnership with the Marketing team) and Sales (in partnership with the Business Development team).

This is a site-based role at Graduate School USA's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the Product Team to balance product priorities and budgets across portfolios.
  • Responsible for target market understanding through a variety of market research.
  • Responsible for short and long-term (1 & 3 year) portfolio planning, execution, reporting, and managing the product’s P&L.
  • Ensure a positive customer experience by offering curriculum solutions that support appropriate government-wide training requirements and are delivered effectively, in a matter that enables a successful performance outcome.
  • Support Sales and Marketing efforts with in-depth target market and product expertise, that enable greater market penetration in all channels, and when appropriate, represents GSUSA at conferences and other customer facing outreach events.
  • Drive the Product Marketing strategy for the domain. Partners with Marketing team on the execution of that strategy– including development of thought leadership activities.
  • Balance the product development spend across new courses, significant updates, and minor update maintenance along with delivery methodologies for greater revenue attainment and profit maximization.
  • Monitor course quality and customer experience for continuous improvement of both.
  • Recruit, select, and manage SME’s who can serve as instructors, help to develop new content, or help to further develop the product category, as appropriate.
  • Support the Bids and Contracts team, participating in Proposal bids by providing proposal content, contributing to customization discussions along with Learning Development leadership, and other, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-4 years’ relevant practical experience with the federal government and/or experience in the product management training/education space.
  • Ability to research, understand and identify market opportunities for assigned curriculum to make a strong written business case analyzing/justifying the likelihood of success.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, financial, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent relational and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate around the needs of curriculum, instruction, and learners both within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to forge and sustain excellent customer relations and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work with Subject Matter Experts for course updates and development.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of co-workers and customers with tact and diplomacy and collaborate successfully with different groups (customers, instructors, partners, and GS employees), each having different needs and goals.
  • Ability to identify and set priorities and to work independently and with others.
  • Solid computer skills (MS 366, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Preferred
    • Experience working with Instructors, Subject Matter Experts, Instructional Designers, and other learning/training partners, preferred.
    • Experience with government contracting practices and procurement vehicles.
    • Working knowledge of related curriculum (Government Auditing, grants, contracting)
    • Experience in training management, delivery, and working directly with educational entities.
