Job Summary:
This is a key role and will collaborate on the development of new projects through all phases of the Product Development process. Working in collaboration with the with the internal Team, the Product Development Engineer will assist in Concept Development, Detailed Engineering Design, Design Validation and transfer into production to meet and exceed all customer and stakeholder expectations.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop manufacturable medical devices to meet customer and all other stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop medical devices within the guidelines of SMC Ltd’s Quality Management System and Product Development guidelines.
  • Support the project efforts of the Lead Engineer and Program Manager.
  • Manage personal work product to ensure that all customer project deliverables for timing, quality and finance are met.
  • Manage project work within SMC Ltd’s Product Lifecycle Manager.
  • Develop and organize all the necessary documentation during all phases of the project. Develop the Design History File (DHF) and ensure that internal processes and procedures are satisfied before moving to the next phase.
  • Create and support a culture of collaboration, cooperation and communication. Willingness to mentor and to be mentored.
  • Provide internal support for the project and resolve any new issues that develop.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by following all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in production activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years experience, preferred, in the Plastics Industry; preferably Injection Molded Plastic Part and Assembly Design.
  • Professional and well-organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems. Critical thinker.
  • Proficient in Solidworks 3D CAD/CAE software.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently in English.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; Mech Eng or Plastics Eng preferred


ADA Requirements:

  • Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift or otherwise move frequently for extended periods
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. frequently, or more occasionally
  • Walk, stand or otherwise move about continuously
  • The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading
  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
