We are currently looking for a Product Development Engineer to join our team in Pueblo, Colorado.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Product Development Engineer is responsible for performing design and development work under the supervision of Technical Manager, Fastening. The candidate will require multiple areas of responsibility but with a focus on Design (70%) and support of areas including Manufacturing, Quality and R&D (30%). This role will also produce designs, drawings, submittals, Bills of Material and specifications related to the company's products as per the latest company design standards/guidelines and industry and customer specifications using the designated CAD/CAM software, currently MicroStation and NX (CAD/CAM) and SAP (ERP).
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY:
  • Abides by all customer and Nortrak safety policies and procedures while on customer & Nortrak sites.
  • Ensures design specifications of drawings meet customer and Nortrak safety standards.

QUALITY:
  • Produce practical designs and other design components (BOMs, ITPs, etc.) for elastic and direct fixation fasteners.
  • Work with a high degree of accuracy developed through knowledge of the application, manufacture and service requirements, customer and Nortrak standards and industry state of practice.
  • Stay current with company manufacturing processes and product/industry knowledge.
  • Involved with testing and qualification of new products to meet Nortrak and customer specifications.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing to address design/manufacturability/quality issues.

ON-TIME DELIVERY:
  • Maximizes utilization of time to complete projects accurately and meeting department and company commitment dates.

COST:
  • Works as a member of a design team, cooperates with Nortrak Management in an effective manner to produce designs efficiently and on budget with a high degree of manufacturability.

PEOPLE:
  • Shares information, encourages and collaborates with other team members.
  • Develops close working relationships between both internal and external customers and suppliers.

Other duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
  • Adhere to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.

OTHER DUTIES:
  • Helps with the development and management of the quality management system for the fastening division.
  • Internal auditing of laboratory and testing activities according to the quality procedures.
  • Responsible for entire design process including research, development, prototyping, and verification of design.
  • Development of new testing standards, procedures and processes for new designs
  • Development of drawing and testing layout submittals to conform to customer and Nortrak specifications.
  • Develops basics and advanced FEA models using NX Nastran (CAD/CAM).

QUALITIFCATIONS:
EDUCATION:
  • Post Secondary education with diploma or degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline.

FIELD OF EXPERIENCE:
  • Three to five years experience in the engineering field.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment an asset.
  • Knowledge of materials & casting processes related to the company's manufactured products.
  • Detailed knowledge in CAD, in particular, NX, MicroStation, SolidWorks and/or CAM (NX, Surfcam, WorkNC).
  • Demonstrate creativity in new designs.
  • Sound knowledge of PLM system and ERP system.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office standard and special programs.
  • SAP knowledge would be an asset.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibit strong and effective verbal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work as a project team member.
  • Manage deadlines, prioritize and execute multiple tasks in an efficient manner.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiar with Siemens Teamcenter and SAP would be an asset.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
  • Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional travel may be required which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to long periods of time.

SALARY:
  • $65,000 - $85,000/year
