Collins Aerospace in Fairfield, CA, is seeking an entry-level Process Operator Technician. The selected candidate will be responsible for setting up, calibrating, operating, and selecting suitable machines for the production and fabrication of explosive parts. Additionally, they will be required to inspect machining operations and finished products against specified tolerances with precision measuring tools.

Our facility manufactures and tests explosive, propellant, and cartridge-actuated devices. From small, discrete devices to canopy removal systems, our facilities support a nearly unlimited selection of products. We know what’s at stake every day when we come to work. This position will work onsite in Fairfield, CA.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $29.00 per hour starting rate (1.5x per hour after 8 hours per day)*

Schedule:

  • This position is for 1st Shift.
  • Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
  • Overtime is available and/or mandatory on a business need basis.

What You'll Do

  • Use computer-controlled and manual machining equipment to select, position, and secure automatic or semi-automatic specialized machines, controlling and adjusting machine settings to complete tasks according to specifications.
  • Prepare materials for machining and processing.
  • Perform a variety of explosives storage, transport, handling, processing and operational tasks in quantities up to 250 pounds.
  • Weigh, load and inspect the column height of explosives and pyrotechnic powders.
  • Perform tests and inspections of explosives according to Collins Aerospace quality standards.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair minor issues on machines, mechanical equipment, and components.
  • Operate cranes/hoists, powered industrial vehicles, and materials handling equipment as needed.
  • Reference and interpret diagrams, blueprints, work orders, specifications, and engineering plans and drawings for fabrication, operation, material, and dimensional requirements.
  • Provides support and recommendations for the R&D and implementation of facility, equipment, processes, and methods for both new and upgraded programs.
  • Makes recommendations to improve explosive handling processes, reworks, and/or repairs of assembled equipment and products for engineering specification changes.
  • Create formulas and make calculations to assist Engineering with data analysis and process changes.
  • Receive, store, issue, return, and transfer a variety of items, including explosive and pyrotechnic materials, while maintaining accurate inventory control records.
  • Inventory and maintain government tooling property according to military regulations.
  • Perform a variety of production/manufacturing operation activities, including setting up and assembling parts, while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Operate hand tools, electrical tools, hand cutters, and light equipment.
  • Participate in cost reduction plans and continuous improvement plans/events.
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintain regulations including, but not limited to, Environmental Health and Safety, Ethics, International Trade Compliance, and Human Resources.

Basic Qualifications

  • Typically requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a High School diploma or GED, 4 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) access.
