Oxy Low Carbon Ventures (OLCV) is hiring to support engineering, construction, and commissioning of a variety of technologies in our portfolio, including multiple facilities based upon Direct Air Capture (DAC) and TerraLithium technologies that are currently in development and planned in the upcoming years. OLCV is seeking those who can apply their technical, managerial, process and safety experience to an important new frontier industry. OLCV plans to build dozens of DAC, TerraLithium, and potential other facilities in the next decade to meet the ever-growing demand for Carbon Dioxide Removals (CDRs), domestic battery-grade lithium products, and products derived from CO2. OLCV is actively constructing the first DAC facility, STRATOS, which is on track to become the world’s largest Direct Air Capture facility capturing up to 500,000 tons of atmospheric CO2 annually and is expected to be commercially operational in mid-2025. OLCV is also actively engineering the second DAC facility planned to be installed on acreage acquired from the King Ranch property south of Corpus Christi. TerraLithium is building a Demonstration Plant to refine its technology prior to designing and building commercial-scale facilities.

Description
As theProcess Engineer in the Oxy Low Carbon Ventures Business Unit located in Houston, TX, you will be responsible for the process development and implementation of technologies being designed, constructed, and commissioned by the OLCV group. You will work in a Capital Project setting supporting the project process needs. The primarily work location will be at Greenway Plaza and the EPC (engineering, procurement, construction company) office with frequent trips to the facility sites during the construction and commissioning phases of the projects. Some out-of-town travel will be required for this job, generally no longer than one business week. Specific responsibilities include:
- Be a key player of the PMT (Project Management Team) to support the overall needs and goals of the DAC Project.
- Take overall ownership of the Project Design Basis, PFD’s, HMB, and P&ID’s.
- Support the Project Hazard Analysis and Management of Change project programs as the process safety expert.
- Support 3D model development and reviews to ensure the process as designed will work as intended technically.
- Provide timely responses to technical inquiries from the EPC to keep the project on schedule and on budget.
- Interface with vendors and subcontractors to provide timely advice and answers to technical inquiries to keep them on schedule and on budget.
- Effectively incorporate process changes that are required as this first of a kind technology receives learnings to enhance the process.
- Guide the EPC Project Process Team to insure we are effectively furthering the DAC / TerraLithium facility design and overall DAC / TerraLithium programs.
- Provide technical assistance, reviews, and training to the Plant Technical and Operations Teams to enhance their technical capabilities.
- Mentor early career engineers that join the OLCV group supporting project engineering, construction, and commissioning.
- Communicate, implement, and assure compliance with governmental rules and regulations, as well as company plans, programs, policies, and procedures involved with the conduct of a safe, clean, environmentally sound, and efficient facility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum 8 years of major project engineering, construction, and commissioning experience in the chemical or petrochemical industries
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, write and speak in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team and to develop team members
- Physical requirements – Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
- Walking, bending, stooping is required
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Aspen Plus or HYSYS
- Experience with SmartPlant P&ID
- Knowledge of industry codes, regulations, and best practices
