Full Time Probation Officer
Hancock County Common Pleas Court Adult Probation Department is seeking a full time Probation Officer. This position will assist an extremely busy division of the Court in supervising defendants reporting to the Adult Probation Department and enforcing compliance with Court ordered conditions both in the field and office settings.
Required skills/certifications:
- B.A., B.S. or Associates Degree in Corrections, Law Enforcement, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License
- At least 21 years of age
- Strong oral, written and computer communication skills
- Must exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence
- Hancock County resident or surrounding county
Must successfully take and pass:
- Criminal background check
- Employment background check
- Pre-Employment drug screen
- Written exam
Preferred skills:
- Critical thinking
- Decision-making
- Organizational skills
- Manage a caseload of individuals with felony convictions to successful closure
- Change agent oriented
- Emotional stability
Strongly preferred skills:
- Prior experience as a Probation Officer, substance abuse or mental health counselor
- Case management
- Current OPOTA peace officer commission
Must be willing to obtain:
- ORAS Certification
- Thinking for a Change
- EPICS
- Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse Treatment
- Ohio Peace Officer Training
- Ability to obtain and maintain departmentally established level of proficiency in the use of firearms
Required Job Duties:
- Utilize various cognitive behavioral treatments and punitive interventions
- Supervising defendants reporting to the Adult Probation Department
- Enforcing compliance with Court ordered conditions both in the field and office settings
- Occasional evening and weekend surveillance
- Electronic monitoring duties
- Prepare multiple investigations for the Court and other duties as assigned
