POSITION: Misdemeanor Probation Officer / Court Officer
DEPARTMENT: Muskingum County Court Probation
HOURS: Full time- 40 hours a week Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm (some extended workweek and/or weekend hours)
Position Description:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for disabled persons, covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, in accordance with the requirements of that Act.
Responsible for work involving the supervision and monitoring of adult misdemeanor offenders with court orders and conditions of probation. Monitors fees paid by offenders for court costs, restitution, and fines.
Establishes community service work sites and coordinates community service activities. Conducts random drug screens to ensure offender’s compliance with conditions of probation. Attends revocation hearings and provides testimony regarding compliance with conditions of probation. Assumes court security duties by scanning visitors entering the Courtrooms/Offices with the Court. Assume duties of court bailiff as needed.
Occasionally respond to emergencies and provide backup to fellow officers. Arrest offenders and serve warrants. Settle and calm disturbances within the scope of the duties as a Court Officer/Probation Officer. Transport prisoners to and from the jail.
Maintain required records and prepare factual reports and affidavits in support of prosecuting offenders and testify in various court settings.
Serve subpoenas and other court documents.
Maintain good relations with the general public.
Qualifications: An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Examples of acceptable qualifications are listed below:
-High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
- Basic computer, organizational, and communication skills
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
- Ability to pass all pre-employment screenings
- O.P.O.T. A. Certification is recommended but not mandatory.
STARTING SALARY: Hourly based on Experience and Qualifications
