Our company's Research Laboratories Boston, is focused on driving discovery research. Our multi-disciplinary discovery research site offers state-of- the-art resources to explore the most promising science combined with our company's world-class R&D expertise in small molecules, peptides, biologics and nucleic acids. Located within the heart of the Massachusetts biomedical community, research conducted in our laboratories spans exploratory biology through early clinical development and is an integral part of our company's powerful world-class network of drug and vaccine discovery.

Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) is a multi-disciplinary research group that enables drug discovery and drug product development through application of pharmaceutical science and Drug Delivery research from target identification through clinical candidate selection for both small and large molecules. DPS influences molecular design of novel therapeutics through physicochemical property profiling, de-risking strategies, and communication across functions and downstream to development partners. We further utilize our expertise to develop and study prototype formulations intended for clinical use, and deliver robust Good Laboratory Practice formulations. In aggregate, our team enables the transition of the right molecules from discovery to clinical formulation development with clinical formulation strategies in place. This position offers the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative Drug Delivery technologies and the advancement of novel drug products through solving unique challenges in delivering diverse modalities and driving scientific rigor to maintain the leading position of DPS in pharmaceutics assessment.

Job Responsibilities:

DPS in Boston, MA is seeking a Principal Scientist to join our department. The candidate should have a creative passion for identifying and applying effective Drug Delivery technologies and pharmaceutics methods as well as a track record of driving results and rapidly progressing from idea conception to in-vitro & in-vivo evaluation. The Principal Scientist will:

  • Identify and champion impactful pipeline-driven innovations to solve unique Discovery program challenges of delivery of diverse modalities including small molecules, peptides and biologics.

  • Challenge the scientific direction within the space and inspire scientific rigor to bring novel and innovative tools to aide in keeping DPS at the front of pharmaceutics assessment in discovery.

  • Help develop necessary subject matter experts within the group through mentorship and coaching to identify and progress optimal drug candidates of all modalities.

  • Actively explore external (commercial and academic) opportunities to engage new technologies related to Drug Delivery, pharmaceutics, and other areas relevant to our company's drug discovery/development programs

Education minimum requirements:

  • Ph.D. with eight (8) years of experience or M.S. with ten (10) years of experience in Pharmaceutical Sciences, chemistry, chemical / biochemical engineering or related disciplines and relevant experience

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in driving innovative research in oral and injectable Drug Delivery of small molecules and/ peptides.

  • Strong leadership/interpersonal skills and motivation to work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions.

  • Enterprise mindset with decision making driven by an appropriately balanced consideration of driving the business and developing staff.

  • Demonstrated experience solving program challenges by leveraging strong scientific fundamentals in related subject areas including organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, biopharmaceutics, process development, or engineering.

  • Familiarity with early development and commercialization challenges through drug product development experience

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in pre-clinical / clinical formulation development and physico-chemical characterization.

  • Advanced computation, data analysis, and visualization skills

  • Strong record of patent applications / patents

  • Strong record of external peer-reviewed publications

  • Demonstration of external scientific presence and influence
