Role:
The focus of the Principal Scientist/Associate Director of Mammalian Display will be to lead and expand the Mammalian Display Team responsible for binder discovery and large-scale Tentacle (multi-specific) discovery. Additionally, the Principal Scientist/Associate Director will collaborate with the other Biologics and Biology Teams to provide mammalian cell sorting, cell binding, reporter assay, and molecular biology support to move Tentarix's project portfolio forward.
Responsibilities:

  • Hire and build a team fully responsible for expanding Tentarix's core Mammalian Display binder and Tentacle discovery platform including:
    • Building complex libraries using state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques
    • Expand our technologies for library incorporation into mammalian cells
    • Build redundancy within the team to insure consistency and flexibility
    • Elevate in-house sorting capabilities to support Mammalian Display and stable cell line generation
    • Build cell based reporter systems to identify Tentacle functionality
  • Recruit, interview, and work with HR to build the Mammalian Display Team
  • Manage team timelines, employee workload, team training, and employee career growth
  • Facilitate the teams' efforts to establish improved data capture and data tracking methods for Binders and Tentacles
  • Establish quality control guidelines including binder and Tentacle library integrity in the mammalian system
  • Monitor and reprioritize efforts to ensure the team meets project timelines
  • Selectively outsource non-specialist work to allow focus on scientifically challenging Biologics aspects of our programs
    • Build strong lines of communication with the other teams at Tentarix to ensure proper hand-offs, maintain efficient workflows and to maximize our capabilities
  • Mentor and develop direct reports, providing real-time feedback
  • Maintain a culture of innovation and continual improvement
  • Support intellectual property filings and regulatory filings, as necessary
  • Willing and able to travel on an occasional basis

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Ph.D., and 5-10 years industry experience
  • Experience with mammalian or yeast display for binder discovery and engineering
  • Expertise in state-of-the-art molecular biology methods
  • Strong background in flow cytometry/cell sorting and NGS to support binder discovery
  • Experience building and leading high-performing small to medium size teams
  • Experience with antibody and antibody-like therapeutics, including bispecific antibodies is preferred
  • Industry experience developing biologics is preferred
  • A strong record of scientific achievement and delivery on biologics programs is preferred
  • Goal oriented, organized, and capable of prioritizing across multiple projects
  • Able to execute to timelines across multiple programs
  • Thrive in a cross functional team environment and committed to positively contributing to Tentarix's small company culture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident, independent and decisive; a self-starter, proactive and results-oriented with high performance standards
  • Passionate, persistent and with a sense of urgency

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Tentarix, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $135,000 - $180,000.
