Principal Information Systems Architect
Amgen is investing in a new, powerful data collection and analytics platform. The platform enables Amgen to acquire previously inaccessible data at unprecedented speed from IIoT-enabled devices such as control systems or smart sensors and to perform meaningful and actionable edge analytics in real time – improving the productivity of our plants through enhancements in efficiency and reliability.
The deployment of this platform across Amgen’s manufacturing network and use of Artificial Intelligence will transform how we manufacture the products that impact the lives of our patients. You will take charge of expanding, scaling, and industrializing the platform’s capabilities, and orchestrate the rollout of high-value applications across the network.

As a Principal Information Systems Architectyou will:
Serve as the Product Owner and Architect for Amgen 's Pharma 4.0 technologies, encompassing the IIoT platform, smart sensors, and advanced AI/ML capabilities at the edge. This includes overseeing the platform's architecture, strategic planning, managing the product backlog, and spearheading new feature development.
Advance and expand the initial use cases that have been developed to date. You will create a roadmap comprising plans for the roll-out of existing use cases and knowledge to other sites and development of new use cases across the manufacturing network.
Advance and mature Amgen’s Pharma 4.0 technologies, both at the edge and in cloud environments.
Direct a team of developers and a scrum master, guiding them through the backlog in an Agile project framework, with a focus on efficient and innovative implementation of project goals.
Collaborate with business partners to scale up existing IIoT use cases from an initial Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to multi-site deployment and sustainment, aiming to improve value across the Amgen manufacturing network.
Partner with business collaborators to identify, develop, and implement new global IIoT use cases, enhancing key performance indicators such as quality, equipment reliability, and overall yield.
Engage in active collaboration with business partners to explore how digital technologies can be used to enhance quality and operational efficiency.
Capture and synthesize requirements from various clients, customers, or end-users to develop optimal digital solutions tailored to specific needs.
Strategize with business partners to construct well-founded business cases, prioritizing initiatives that promise the highest impact on business objectives.
Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in Pharma 4.0, integrating relevant advancements into the company's strategic planning.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems/Technology experience; OR
Master’s degree and 4 years of Information Systems/Technology experience; OR
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Information Systems/Technology experience; OR
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Information Systems/Technology experience; OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems/Technology; experience
Preferred Qualifications:
This role requires creative thinking to develop technical solutions we currently cannot even imagine. In addition, we expect a sense of ownership which will allow you to serve as a champion of the platform across different sites, digital teams, and other functions across Amgen Operations.
Experience with micro-services application architectures
Coding experience in at least one programming language (Python strongly preferred)
Experience with Data Historians, automation systems, system integration using standard industrial protocols like OPC/UA and Ethernet/IP.
Understanding of data engineering, especially with time series data
Familiarity with machine learning methods / MLOps
Experience with AWS Cloud technologies
Experience with IoT systems, such as AWS IoT/Greengrass, and knowledge of IoT system architecture
Experience with smart IoT sensors using WiFi, LoRaWan or 5G
Experience with Docker containers, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines
Experience and understanding of industrial cameras and machine vision technologies.
Experience working in a GxP environment
Experience managing sophisticated and agile digital product development project
IoT, Application or Microservices architect in an industrial setting or
Experience working as an automation / systems engineer, data scientist / data engineer, Business analyst / IS systems analyst
