The Civil Group at Leidos currently has an opening for anEnvironmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialistto work in our Ladson, SC facility. As a member of the Leidos Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) team, you will be joining a diverse and dedicated group who are excited about producing industry leading screening technology. Our new Ladson, SC facility will produce a comprehensive suite of fully automated and integrated products for aviation, shipping ports, border crossings, and critical infrastructure customers. These systems provide threat detection by screening baggage, cargo, and people at checkpoints around the world.
In this role you will assist the SES EHS Manager with planning, directing and implementation of a world class safety culture to ensure compliance with all state, federal and local governmental EHS regulations. This EHS Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of Leidos Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs at the Ladson Facility in South Carolina (SC) location. The EH&S specialist will be expected to perform with minimal supervision and successfully interact with all levels of Leidos personnel to facilitate EH&S program and policy integration and implementation.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Development and implementation of EH&S programs.
  • Conducting EH&S inspections and risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance and monitor EH&S program implementation.
  • Participates in planning and implementation of programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, including but not limited to fire prevention, correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials, blood borne pathogens, hazardous communication, lockout/tagout, emergency action plans and more.
  • Conducts monthly environmental recordkeeping and inspections as needed to assure compliance with applicable permits, regulations, and requirements.
  • Assists with management of EHS programs, including cost control/reduction and accident prevention/ reduction, safety behavior audit and risk assessment programs.
  • Oversee workplace industrial hygiene monitoring as needed (i.e., air sampling, noise monitoring, etc).
  • Participating in site accident/incident investigations and assessment of EH&S concerns.
  • Analyzes safety history to identify unsafe trends/behaviors and uses information as directed to assist in the develop safety strategies.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in one or more EH&S program areas (e.g., industrial hygiene, laser safety, hazardous material shipping, radiation, electrical safety, hazardous waste management, etc.).
  • Developing implementable recommendations for corrective actions and documenting completion to address identified EH&S needs.
  • Travel Requirement: 25%

Basic Qualifications
  • BS degree in a biological, physical, or environmental science related field and 5+ years of "hands on" EH&S work experience implementing EH&S programs within diverse work environments, e.g., manufacturing, office, lab, research, military; Or Masters Degree with 2+ years experience. Additional years' experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Hold active Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certification
  • General computer skills with most Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, and Excel)
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a professional, high paced work environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, analytical skills as well as have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Experience designing and implementing EH&S processes, procedural documentation, and training
  • Knowledge of various EHS federal and state laws and regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA) and industry benchmarking metrics and ability to effectively interact and communicate with regulatory agencies
  • Must exhibit excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Be able to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the Aviation sector and TSA programs
  • Basic understanding of key business metrics, key drivers, business vision, and manufacturing processes/challenges as applicable
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 Standards and Management Systems
  • Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) trained and demonstrable experience/ or willingness to obtain the qualification

Pay Range:
Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
